I’d like to say a thank you to everyone who may have spoken to my son over the weekend. He had an absolute blast and is excited to continue working on his 71 Sport Fury. He says he wants to go every year if at all possible. Thanks again!
Here he is with our neighbor’s cars they brought.
Yep, wish the interior had survived, but there are a lot of good exterior part and under the hood parts he can use (or save for future needs). Was really surprised at how good the the moldings and chrome are. Was hoping the top was better to replace his, but heat really did a number to it...
My son bought a 71 Sport Fury donor a month or so back to use what he needed and sell off the remainder. 'Thermal' event completely burned out the interior to bare metal, but the exterior, trunk, and engine compartment are in pretty good shape. I believe the driver side molding is in as good...
The various issues/approaches you noted are greatly appreciated. My son contacted a couple of local fabricating shops that specialize in classics. They have offered for him to bring it by and walk through his options.
As a 17 year old, my son, Judah, has found several folks in our area that...
Thanks and let me know what you find. Definitively at a point pushing my knowledge base. Have several friends locally who are very experienced and willing to assist my son.
Thanks for all the replies. You all have confirmed my thoughts about addressing this. My thoughts have been donor car to either replace current top and rear quarter; or, use his current car as the donor.
Surprisingly, floor and substructure are in very good condition. Trunk pan is in very...
Well, my son and I finally got to the point to remove his vinyl top. Was hopeful that it wouldn't be too bad, but not good. Looking for some options you all may have done to address the types of issues we are seeing. @FURYGT here are the photos we were talking about last week.
Thanks. It is a fun project so far. It's also nice to have a mechanic neighbor who has been working with Chrysler vehicles for most of his life, and wants to teach my son as much as he is able to retain. I'm a generalist when it comes to most things, can figure them out but by far not an...
When we first saw the car, noticed the interior trunk color then took a second look at the interior. I thought the interior had been redone at the time of the blue paint job. We'll see what he decides going forward, but think he is leaning towards original.
Curious if you reached back out to the original owner since your last conversation?
I'm new to the site and my 17 year old son bought his first car, 1971 Sport Fury. The seats from your post are almost the same as my sons other than your post has bucket (H6XW), my son's is H4XW (bench)...
Thanks GOLDMYN, owner had said he thought it was gunmetal metallic and had done a little research and found a salesman's 1971 color & trim selector to see it as GA8 Slate Gray Metallic (Avail. Fury only).
Had been looking for production numbers for the Sport Fury with no avail; had heard it...
Thanks for the welcome. My 17yr old son just bought his first car 3 weeks ago; 1971 Sport Fury
We are new to restoration and look forward to reading, learning, and making friends here on your site. Already finding difficulty in locating seats and doors for this model but we will get there...
