old and new Thermostat tests with questions

The Edelbrock thermostat is on the way. Once it's warm outside I'll install it and see what happens. The diagnosis continues.

old and new Thermostat tests with questions

I was wondering about that. Why a 160? I do notice that with the 160 thermostat, when the engine was cold, it sounds great. Once it heated up and in gear under load i hear a rattle. Not a mechanic so I'm not sure if its lifters or valves.

old and new Thermostat tests with questions

The new thermostat is made in Israel by a company named Murry according to the box. It's rated at 195 degrees. The old one is rated at 160 degrees. I just found the ratings stamped on both thermostats. So now I need to figure out the ideal operating temp for a 440. As I mentioned, the...

old and new Thermostat tests with questions

I decided to replace my thermostat, bought a new one (on the right in the pictures) but did not have the gasket sealer. So, to fill my time I decided to see how well the old thermostat operated compared to the new by placing them both in a pot of 188 degree (see pic) water. The old thermostat...

    mini starter fit issue

Done. I received the conversion kit (posted here in this thread) today and installed everything. So much easier this way. Super easy access. I did have to bend the threaded studs so they align with the main axis of the starter. If I left them as they were, the battery cable stud would be too...

    mini starter fit issue

It looks roomy, but it's tight. If I were in a garage, a better work environment etc. I'd spend the time slowly tightening everything down etc., but the kit is less than 20 bucks and it will go fast once it's in. I'm working on this in my back yard under a tent from harbor freight. Not ideal...

    mini starter fit issue

On the mini starter conversion kit: I removed the connector from the mini starter (see photo) and installed the mini starter without the conversion kit to see if one is actually needed. For peace of mind, I am ordering the conversion kit (I just ordered it now from the link posted above)...

    1975 Imperial build thread

I am having the same issue with my mini starter. What was your solution? I'm going to the original rebuilt because I know it fits.

    mini starter fit issue

The battery cable insulator hits the 440 engine block and prevents the mini starter from being installed correctly. See pics. the starter is crooked. Anyone have this issue before. My solution is to rebuild the starter I removed unless someone has a better idea.

    Quick starter relay question

Will the starter relay die completely when it is bad, or will it work intermittently? 1970 New Yorker.
