68 Polara 383 Oil Pan Brackets

I'm in the process installing a new oil pan gasket on my 1968 Polara with a 383. Fyi, I've got a 187 type pan. There are two brackets that run from the back part of the pan flange to the front cover of the bellhousing. Since both of them are cracked in two (see pic). I'm wondering how necessary...

    1968 Polara Center Link

I got the rack out tonight. Now I see what you mean. The center link has no ball joints. They're all on the idler arm, Pitman arm... Thanks all!

    1968 Polara Center Link

I'm preparing to pull my oil pan off and replace the pan gasket and oil pump. In order to do that I'll need to pull the steering linkage down. However, in researching potential replacement parts, I've found that there aren't any center links available. Does anyone know where I can find one? I'm...

    68 Polara 383 Heads

I only recently had time to mess with it. I pulled the heads off.I'm getting ready to bring them to the machine shop. I plan on having the valves ground, hardened seats installed, milled flat, and checked over from problems. Part of me just wants to pull the motor and rebuild it. But it made no...

    68 Polara 383 Heads

I've been playing with the total timing method. It's something I picked up on Youtube recently. It seems to make the car spring to action way quicker. Since the hesitation went away, I just stuck with it. I'll have to check my throttle blades. I'm guessing they are about half way in. I was...

    68 Polara 383 Heads

Yes, on all accounts. Its been given a few flushes with drain plugs pulled. It's also got a brand new carburetor. The hesitation does get much less detectable with the timing up at 22 degrees.

    68 Polara 383 Heads

Thanks for all the replies. As for the symptoms, there's no major indicators. It has no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. The exhaust isn't white and it doesn't smell odd either. It also idles strong. There are some potentially related symptoms. The car has an intermediate hesitation...

    68 Polara 383 Heads

After much ado, changing water pumps, putting new fan clutches in, pulling block plug... it's time to consider the heads. I pulled of the radiator cap and observed the coolant. Right away I could see bubbles and foaming. My guess is that there's a crack in one of the heads. Currently, the car...

    AC conversion vs upgraded system

I am in the end stages of a conversion. I did everything a la cart. It took allot of effort. Mostly got parts via Ebay e.g compressor, evaporator, expansion value, Condenser... I used a place called Cold Hose for hoses and fittings. Don't buy fittings from Ebay. They're made poorly.

    68 Polara HEI Conversion

Hi! I'm a bit curious because I'm still burning HEIs. Did you keep the stock coil? Was anything done with the resister block?

New AC System Doesn't blow cold enough / 68 Polara 383

Just grabbed the radiator fan and spun it. I had it off for a new water pump. Spun too easy and action was loose. Also, car was getting hot, way too easy.

New AC System Doesn't blow cold enough / 68 Polara 383

I hear you on that water pump. I'm just grasping for straws. I've put about five six once cans in. But I had a leak initially. I'm not sure how much leaked out. Currently, I'm just going by the gauge pressure. Per the low side gauge, I'm at 50psi @95F. I would guess I'm overcharged but the last...

New AC System Doesn't blow cold enough / 68 Polara 383

Yes, it's got a clutch fan and a fan shroud. I currently, have the a new clutch in hand. The old one was working but a it's action was a little too loose for my taste.

New AC System Doesn't blow cold enough / 68 Polara 383

I'm having some problems with my newly rebuilt AC system. It's not blowing cold enough. I've changed it over to 134a. Simultaneously, my engine has developed an overheating problem. I attribute this to not having installed the correct water pump. This engine (383) has two water pumps available...

    68 Polara 4dr

I understand that. I'm just wondering, will a set from a couple fit the front doors of a sedan? If so how well do they line up and look? The coupe's have longer arm rests. Which, if they fit a sedan, would improve the comfort.

    68 Polara 4dr

Hi! I'm in need of some new armrests in my Polara. The car is a 4dr so it has the smaller ones (9.5" pad). I was thinking that it would be nice if the armrest extended further back. When I have my seat all the back, like is my normal. My arm is way off the back of the armrest. Has anyone tried...
