    Bastardized 1959 "Coronet" build

The 1959 roof is going back on chopped about 6". I think I have a good plan to integrate it into the Corvette's halo bar. I'll attach and seal it to the halo bar then hide the seam with a stainless piece like on 60s Imperials.

Ok this is really hard to believe... I had the opportunity to weigh the car today... Scrap yard scales said 3450 with me in the car. That makes the empty car 3250 lbs. Guess what a stock 1998 Corvette weighs... 3245! How in the world can that be? I know that backglass on the Corvette was heavy...

A little digging around Corvette forums and turns out the traction control system will do this if the wheel/tire size has been changed... Guess what I did... Yup put C5 front wheels/tires on the rear to clear the 1959 sheet metal... Root cause found....

    Bastardized 1959 "Coronet" build

No codes other than the one for the air pump I removed on purpose.... I think I may have stumbled onto the root cause... It happened again today and I pulled off the road, engine idling but no throttle then as quick as it left, it came right back. Normal throttle and I drove away... Then I...

I don't think it's cutting out completely but it's hard to tell as its comes and goes pretty quickly. It feels more like the normal amount of throttle just isn't there. I was able to pull into a side road the first time. Engine was still running and after pulling over I was able to drive away...

Another cruise night last Friday. Car was swarmed... Hood latches are on, 3rd door skin brackets on, front fenders rolled but will still need more tweaking. They still rub on hard turns. Wife finally went for a ride. Asks if the heat works, nope, blower motor doing nothing... I'll need that for...

    Bastardized 1959 "Coronet" build

First drives are the best!! Good news: It drives very nicely, straight down the road, no funny vibrations... Bad news: I can't get fuel into it because of the severe turn inside the 1959 fuel filler door into the 1999 Corvette filler. It's close but the gas station nozzle just can't quite push...

    Bastardized 1959 "Coronet" build

1 small victory... The AC idler and tension pulleys were making nasty noises and needed to be replaced before driving any further than down the driveway. Turns out they are not a stocking item locally. About a week to get them. However, it also turns out the AC has its own little belt driven off...

    Bastardized 1959 "Coronet" build

Some small progress... Door skins are actually bolted to the Corvette inner door structure with some aluminum brackets I made. Yup, they don't fall off when I open and close the doors any more. The alignment is not perfect but pretty acceptable. I cleaned all the crap off the car and moved it...

great pics, thanks! I really like it. I think I'd do something different with the rear louvers, not sure what... maybe a sun shade on the inside? I don't know Saratoga roof lines very well. Obviously it was chopped but was it also roof swapped with a donor from something else? Very cool....

Oh, I like the idea A LOT!! Not sure I can snake it over that far while also keeping the bumper close-ish to the body, but I am sure gonna take a look... thanks!

I'm also going to have to decide if I'm cutting holes in the bumper for the exhaust or just put on some tips that turn down towards the ground. I'm leaning toward the latter.....
