1966 Plymouth Fury III Coupe

General Information

This beauty is my first classic car. Recently imported it from California to the Netherlands.
First period it will be prepared for the dutch "road worthy". When that's done I will create a list of work to be done :).

383 v8 6.3ltr engine
CAM specs
Valve lift .420 INT, .443 EXH
Duration 270 DEG/INT, 280 DEG/EXH
(still have to figure out what this valve specs really say's but its mentioned next to the engine. My guess is that it is important information ;)

Please share your ideas on this car! It's much appreciated. Hope to learn a lot from you all on this forum!

I am brand new to the forum and know very little about C bodies (I'm an E body guy), but I love this car. I don't think I've ever even seen one before. Very cool. My brother has a 66 Satellite vert.

Thank you Mr Lee. I really appreciate that. I'm brand new to the forum as-well ;). There is enough work to do on this car. But step by step. Satellite 66 is a very nice car!
Which E body do you own?
 
Nice car Fella, I have A,B, and a C body over here in the UK. There is one of these parked in the woods near me with no drive train in it and a lot of rust LOL.

Thanks Kram! That's an interesting story about a lost Fury in the woods. Might be handy for some parts LOL. Do you have some photos of the A,B and C body's to share?

I do mate, but it appears you cant post 'em in this section. There are a few around the site. I've been working on the '68 Fury conv I have this weekend.
I also have a 68 RR owned for 37years, and a 273 '69 Dart.
 
Good looking c body....interesting cam specs...the 383's can take a little more lift but you need to work through all the components to get the benefit....drive the wheels off it!

Thanks a lot! I'm very curious about your opinion of the cam specs. I'm not really into it so all the information is more then welcome ;-)!
 
D, they never came with a cam spec sticker from the factory, it was not important, what does that sticker say on the valve cover, is it a reman engine,?
You can go as far as 484" of lift then a valve to piston problem may occur (its the duration that you have to worry about, not lift, some people dont understand how the valves chase the piston up and down the bore)....duration is the key.

Now, if you have 8.5 to 1 compression more "cam" will fit....but its a band aid as compression is relative to cam lift. i.e., you need "more of" other stuff to get full benefit

I put a 509" cam kit in a '76 8:1 440 installed in a '70 Coronet that ran 13.09 IIRC in the quarter with 3.23 gears. If the car would of had 10:1 and 3.55 gears it would have easily gone 12.80's

The factory lift numbers on a 383 4BBL car had .425 lift on intake and .435 on the exhaust valves for 1966. That would have been with flat top pistons running a 10.0-1 compression ratio. The stock cam ran about 268 degrees open duration for comparison purposes. The current cam you are running is a street performance cam. Someone has also added an after market intake. Valve covers have been painted in a different color than stock and the air cleaner is a later unit.

Don't let anyone steal that dual-snorkel air cleaner from you. They are pretty rare!

Hate to think how much it costs to fill the tank in your country!

Interesting what you mention about this dual-snorkel air cleaner. It most have been placed by an engine "upgrade"?There has been placed a street performance cam as Dave mentioned earlier.

Let's skip the fuel cost :). Or from the bright side: It's a small country so we will not have to drive a lot miles anyway. LOL

No photos online yet and the car is at a restoration shop. The stock 383 was a peppy engine with the stock cam and a 2-barrel. That is what my Fury has. One modification worth making is electronic ignition to get rid of the pesky points.
 
Love it, you did well my man! Unique & beautiful shade of green, impressive brightwork, and as mentioned previously keep that great dual snorkel. My good friend and college roommate had this same era Fury in a 4 door. Great all around vehicle. Congrats!

just saw your car. LOVE the color. sharp looking car. id think about converting the master cylinder to a 2 circuit system for safety. you can get all needed parts at Inline Tube inc. or a 1968 or later fury. nice car
