‘66 Polara speedometer

Has anyone ever fixed a jumping speedometer needle? From 0-55 it’s pretty good. Anything over that and it’s like it’s waving at you! After 55 it tells me that I’m going between 60 and 120 mph. I just replaced the cable with a brand new one, so I’m pretty sure that’s not the issue. Thanks in advance for any tips!

IIRC, I had a similar situation with my Mustang. I took the dash insert out and swept the speedometer needle manually and discovered that it was bent a little. I ever so slightly straightened it and it’s been working correctly since.

Hi everyone, I think I’ve fixed it. I looked on YouTube and found a video of someone working a speedometer from a 1955 Pontiac Starchief. I removed my speedometer and found that the mechanism was very similar. I lubricated my speedometer the same way and it seems to be working fine and has eliminated the needle bounce.
