The sun has made its mark on the weatherstripping (that the hard top frameless glass sets into) and window sweep rubber (terminology?) on my ‘77 Newport hardtop, and I’m having a heck of a time finding replacements for them. The rain isn’t making its way in yet, but it’s only a matter of time. The window sweep rubber is more like stone than rubber now, too.

Do any of you know where I could find replacements for this? Or am I stuck MacGyvering something to work?

Any help is much appreciated!

Matt

In the mean time . . .
On one of my hardtop cars, I got some high-heat silicone sealer and artfully smeared it onto the deteriorating rubber window weatherstrips. A skin coat smeared on with my index finger. Filled in the gaps and held them together pretty well. Worked for several years! As it was black, nobody noticed.

Just some thoughts,

For many years, the Formal Hardtop Weatherstrip has been unobtanium. NOS sources have dried up.

Some folks have cobbled up replacements, but it is not stock stuff, and I believe they needed to reuse/ glue on the original molded ends and corners.

To me, "NOS weatherstrip" is old as the car is, just that it's been rolled/folded up in a box all of its life. Shelf life issues happen to them, too.

Call these guys. They sell it by the foot, I have a 77 hardtop New Yorker and I bought 14 feet. Have installed it yet, but I think you’ll be good. You WILL!!!!! Need to save your corners. Even if they’re hard and dry, they don’t make them anymore. So you’ll have to soften them up somehow and make them work. The picture below is only for the straight portions of the gasket.

If you decide to call, it’s referenced as “75 roof rail”.. tell them that and they’ll know what you need
