BTW, has anybody ever seen a ’special order’ engine, verified by the VIN code as such? What were they?

a special order engine is an engine which was regulary not available in the model.

In 1969 it is identified by the "M" as the fifth digit.
It was used for the 69 A12 Super Bees and Road Runners (who had a 440+6) as well as the A-Body Dart GTS and Cudas with 440 HP engine

There were no "Dodge" engine plants or "Chrysler/Plymouth" engine plants. They all came down the same line, unless they might have been assembled by Chrysler Industrial, which did 426 Hemis and the "industrial, fixed location engines" (i.e., irrigation pump motors). There might have been a few engine plants for B/RB engines (other than the Industrial line), but I believe all of them came out of MI.

And the Canadian engines ?
There are red engines used in Canadian cars , don,t know exactly the years but i owned a Canadian 65 300 with a orig red 383 2bbl.

Only considering USA-sold vehicles. Canadian-sold/manufactured vehicles seem to have some items which seem to be a breed unto themselves, with all due respect. Just didn't worry about them, back then, being in TX.

From what I can recall for cars around the 69/70 era is that the 2bbl 383's came turquiose or blue, while the 4bbl engines came blue if they were the 330 horsepower version with the regular camshaft, which the A/C equipped cars would have had,and the non A/C 335 horsepower 383's came orange. Both 4bbl 383's had the same engine code in the VIN,(H) in 1969 or (N) for 1970.
