Later 440 installed, must have used the lever actuated Torquefite a well. It would need a cable actuated trans to work with the push buttons.

Understood... it was just such a nice car and then ...that. this had potential to be one the cleanest I've seen in a while.

What a shame, that was a nice car before this guy came along. He should of kept his paws off of it. If he changed the tranny to the lever shift it means there is no parking brake anymore. Try getting that through inspection. Interior is excellent? I can see the stuffing coming out of the front seat!
Must be in a rough neighborhood of you need steering wheel lock while the car is on cinder blocks.

Your still running regular Pa. Plates on your classic cars. Put antique plates on an don't feed the mechanic welfare machine.

I have a 440/727 in the garage from a 1978 motor home. the park brake would work for the swap... but the shifter on the floor... that was taking the easy way out, but F@#ks up the interior in my eyes. BTW I am pretty sure the 440 is a low value build core... but if I do anything with it would only become a cruiser anyhow, which is why I held onto it I don't see them as valuable enough to let one I know wasn't cooked get away. the trans... well you just never know.

PA state inspection both feeds and kills the little guy shops. 10 years ago I finally convinced my step-father to both raise his labor rate and stop bugging me to comeback and let him retire. He was still charging $35 per hour... raising the rate made the books good enough for him to sell.

In Pa. it is mechanic welfare put it up in the air pull the wheels look at the brakes measure, measure, measure then run the lug nuts back on with a impact at 4-5 times what they should be then tell me I need new windshield wipers because they have to find something or the audit guy will give them ****. There is no reason for a mechanic to ever touch any vehicle I own except for these stupid inspections that can be done in two minutes without removing any parts of my car.

A Rare Instance where I would love to own a Four door. But that guy should of let well enough alone.

Is there a parking brake drum on the trans you have? Is that a motor home thing?

Yes the drum is on the tail shaft... similar to the push button, IDK if its the same. Class A motorhome...shed on wheels had it. Class C with van front possibly not... haven't really paid too much attention and the build variety of those things gets ridiculous.

I did my last in 1995... I've heard its changed a lot... got a bit less uptight and sub-contracted instead of state police running it. inspections didn't pay then... you just hoped for the repairs. too many shops built their business around it instead of meaningful repair work. Without it... you would see a lot of smaller shops die off... GOOD ENOUGH MECHANIC WELFARE it is.

All my cars from my 89 Lotus on down are registered antique so the inspection doesn't matter to me, I was merely bringing it up for the guys in other states that must go through regular inspections, regardless of whether they are registered as classic or antique. We here in PA are very lucky to get that break. Try pulling that in NY. Giant pain in the *** up there, for newer cars anyway. My parents are in their 80's on a fixed income, and it cost them over 600 bucks to get a check engine light out on their 2003 Ford Taurus wagon. They drive like 3k a year. Just how much is that evap leak really hurting the environment? Every inspection they do there runs thru the DMV by computer from the shop directly to Albany, via the OBDII interface. It's like Nazi Germany up there they know who you are how many miles you've driven if you've been speeding, if you've paid that parking ticket, etc. Sheesh leave us some already. They're so concerned about emissions, they didn't even care the they had a 16 inch hole in the floor and the sub frame was rotted out. After they blew 600 on the car, three months later their mechanic told them about gaping hole and rotted frame! Said he didn't notice it during the inspection. Nice huh. I'll stick to this dopey system we have here.
And I still say that guy butchered that car up. Shame on him!

In Maine we have yearly safety inspections, done by licensed garages. They charge $12.50 for what should take about 1/2 hour. Most will find something to repair.
You can use an antique plate to avoid, but, you ate only allowed 250 "recreational" miles. Parades and shows are not counted. Most abuse it, but heavy fines if you get caught

No inspections here in MI, thankfully.

You know with that avatar... the wife wont like me talking to you...

The safety and emissions stuff has good and bad points. Here in FL they got rid of what safety inspections they had, 1982 was the last. Stand on a busy street and every 50th car has brakes grinding and tires that wouldn't leave squiggles in the sand. Customers would want A/C fixed on cars that you had to cycle the wheel 90 degrees or more to go straight... and of course only want A/C fixed.

IDK anything about NY inspections, but there should be a way to report that shop, and I would never go back. That guy is an F-ing idiot. Labor rates and parts prices and overhead... I don't begrudge any shop that provides an honest estimate and quality repair, whatever the price. I gave lots of thousand dollar estimates on hundred dollar cars, and never once felt bad if a customer didn't want to invest. I even discouraged lots of them, pointing out what else they would need down the road (like sub frames). I never felt bad about what it cost to fix the car right either... and I kept my car fixed the same way.

Quality workmanship and ethical business practices have been on the decline for so long... I just talked to a young man the other day who told me of the 4 PB stores he worked at this past year, not one had a ASE master on staff and they changed their pay from flat rate to commission. Flat rate pay can lead to dishonesty, but allows for Legal estimating, which is important. The Tech only gets paid what the job quoted for and is responsible for proper repairs at that price. Commission pay, the Tech gets paid based on the total of the bill, encourages dishonest practices because the higher the bill regardless of repair needs, the more $. Tire stores and muffler shops favor commission, and some are still honest. Dealerships and some independents favor flat rate, and some are crooked. Find a shop you trust and stick with them for all your service... no guarantees, but your best bet.

I have a question... does anyone know if the 727 1978 motorhome cable operated park brake equipped trans would be a straight replacement for a PB 727? I haven't driven or worked on one since the 1980s and now I'm curious.

I had that motorhome short tail shaft 727. There was no parking brake on it.

That's as far as I'm gonna reach with the camera tonight. It is cable shifted and as you can see has the park brake, worked when removed, but I would consider it a build core with positive history. Not looking to sell, I held onto it and the 440 for "someday". I am just dying to know if it is a bolt in for a PB... but then I really want to hang onto it as I am a major Exner fan too.

the misc. other items are the MH motor mounts, driveshaft support bearing and front yoke cut off drive shaft to help if I had one made. nice pic of the windsor in the back ground... her best angle.
