1962 Chrysler Wagon

Picked up this beauty today. 1962 9 passenger Chrysler New Yorker Wagon. Was parked in a barn since 1985. Pretty decent shape. Looking at getting it cleaned up and running. It’s missing some pretty important glass (driver rear and tailgate) so I’ll be on the hunt for those rarities.

That body looks to be in really great shape with that patina lots of folks go for today. But I hope you find the glass you need, I would think that cargo area glass might take some major hunting.

Nice thing is the glass is all the same between the Chrysler's ,Dodge and Plymouth on the full size wagons. I have the tailgate glass and I will have to look

on the side glass if I have a spare one.

Beautiful wagon for sure - very rust free, so it must have come from the Southwest desert. What options does it have - any a/c? It is a New Yorker model, so it should have the 413 single four barrel carbureted engine. There are a number of wrecking yards in Arizona that might well have the missing pieces for your car, but if you still can not find everything there, you might try calling John at Big M Automotive in central California - he might well also have many of those missing parts. Great guy to work with too.

Yes its pretty rust free. It does have ac, but it’s an under dash unit? Not sure if that’s factory or dealer add on possibly? Yes it has a 413. Looks pretty unmolested. Carburetor is gone, but original air cleaner is there. The people who pulled it out of the barn decided to tear the interior apart to clean out the packrat belongings, so in the process of cleaning that up and getting all that put back together. My plan is to get a carb and get this thing fired.

Fantastic find! Looks like a nice solid body to start with. I have found that wagon-specific parts can be hard to find, but they are out there.....for a price. I love mine, i draws conversation everywhere I have parked it.

It must be an add on a/c system since the factory a/c systems had swivel vents in the top part of the dash next to the windshield and a spot cooler on the driver side, down low (see representative photo below). The add on units did a good job though, generally, and would be welcome in Tucson.

If you are unable to find the correct AFB carburetor, let me know, as I might possibly have one. It would take some searching though.

Yes, but they actually protruded from the side of the console rather than on top of it, although in 1960 the Chrysler 300Fs had 4 speed shifters that did come up through the center of the console. But that French gear box was used one year only (it was also used in Facel Vegas first and was called a "pont a mousson" gear box, but really was't durable enough for the Chrysler applications) and was replaced by the 3 speed Chrysler manual transmission in 1961 and later 300s.

I'm ah bit late to this party but ah double thumbz up. Az Dan said "the glass iz around". I'll only add that the side glass and the T-gate glass are the same from 1960 thru' 1965 on the modelz he named, so the mechanisms will be the same too. Have fun with it. I enjoyed my '61 for 28 yearz and after 5 yearz gone I still miss it, Jer
