Hello!

Just inherited my grandfather’s ‘63 Imperial. I want to remove the radio to retrofit it with new insides. I can’t figure out how to gain access to it. Anyone with hints on how to get at it??

From the service manual. The bracket in step #2 is probably behind the radio, but I've never taken one out myself.

Removal (Imperial Models!
(1) Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
(2) Remove the radio-to-dash support bracket.
(3) Remove the 2 screws attaching the fuse block
to the instrument panel and lower the fuse block to
facilitate removal of the radio.
(4) Disconnect the "A" lead light lead, front and
rear speaker leads, antenna leads and foot control
switch connectors.
(5) Withdraw the radio assembly from the underside

Grab a digital copy of the full service manual here: Service Manuals – MyMopar

Thanks!! Yes, I saw the manual also … but it just blanketly says to “remove upper and lower instrument panel mouldings” (Chrysler vehicles) … but I can’t seem to figure out how those mouldings are mounted. No visible screws, and I presume they are screwed in place somehow for a vehicle of this age.

I can see the radio is in a standard style bracket with front screws but cannot see, for the life of me, how to remove the front dash panels.

Go to the next page and look at "Removal (Imperial Models)"

What you are reading is the procedure for a Chrysler, like a New Yorker or something like that. Your Imperial is an almost entirely different vehicle, a D body rather than a C body.
