1964 Chrysler New Yorker 2-door project

Hey,
Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Angus and I am from Calgary, Alberta. I have been a member for awhile but have just been on the sidelines. I am currently in an intensive restoration of a basket case '64 New Yorker 2-door pushbutton automatic restoration. I restored a 1976 Triumph TR6 between 2009 and 2012. I also have a 1977 Chrysler Newport 2-door hardtop that keep in Kelowna fulltime. It's my summer "fly-in and drive car". Cool to see all the old big Mopes on here.

Wow is right, heck of a project! There are a bunch of us in Calgary, we need to get together and swap tales!
 
Welcome. Gotta say thats an ambitious project but SO worth it. Awesome!
 
Thanks for the feedback guys. Ya, I'm smart enough to know this would not be a good candidate for restoration in anyone's books but it's one of those things. My pops always wanted to build one and he spent a lot of time looking for a '64 New Yorker 2-door and this was the best one he could find in his lifetime. Before the internet he had a hardtime convincing people of his age a 2-door '64 New Yorker even existed - they didn't make very many. The 4-door parts car being cannibalized in this project we picked up in Santa Clara, California shortly before my dad passed in 2008. My dad, my two brothers and I drove down there and brought the car back to Canada. It was the last road trip we had with the old man. Both cars sat for awhile while I handled the TR6 project (which he had all pulled apart at the time he passed), had three kids and life took over but I couldn't let it go any further. I'm 37 - turn 38 in April and my goal is to have this one on the road by my 40th birthday. I'm a software geek by trade but I have taken the both the MIG and TIG course at SAIT - handier with the MIG - and I have been messing with cars since I was 14-years-old. I'd like to take the Top Coats course this fall as I want to paint this car myself (haven't done that yet). I'll keep posting here as this project moves forward.

Apparently only 300 of these '64 coupes were made, indeed a rare car.
 
I read somewhere that the '64 2dr was a Canadian only thing... Don't recall about '62 or '63 in Canada, but I'm fairly certain the New Yorker 2drht wasn't produced in the U.S. for any of the 3 years from '62-'64.

Great project, glad I looked in on this one. I love doing that type of work!:thumbsup:

Love the TR6 too. I had one for a minute, great cars with great lines and that straight 6 is perfect for it.

Wow! That would be unusual. I would think tht would be the other way around....none available in Canada.

I agree Matt. This would be a solid project car. And a cool one too!
 
Ha!!! You're not wrong. I saw that picture a couple years ago and it was part of the inspiration on how I harvested the floor.

I had a fellow member here tell me last year that my project inspired others to move on with their projects and now I see the proof! :)

I'm surprised on how great of condition that the Stub frame is in compared to the rest of the car.
