I am putting my '65 Monaco up for sale. Original California car sold new at Padre Dodge in San Diego. I do not know full history of car as it went to Florida(still has dealer decal on bumper from Florida) sometime before 1991 and was purchased by an elderly lady who needed a car to drive back to New Jersey to open her motel in Barnegat Light for the season. I purchased it from her in August of 1991. Except for about the first six months, it has been garaged since. It is equipped with the 383-4 and automatic with 3:23 gears. Color is Pale Gold Poly(1 of 3 exclusive colors to the Monaco and discontinued part way through the model year),black vinyl top and saddle interior.
The car was repainted sometime prior to my purchase and was for lack of a better term a "Maaco" job. Everything was taped off for paint, nothing removed. Except for the paint, the entire outside of the car is completely original, all trim, lenses, seals, vinyl top,and body. Nothing has ever been re-done, chrome and stainless are still presentable and the body has every ding it has acquired in its' lifetime. Body is RUST-FREE. This is not a show car in the sense of one that has been restored. I take it to many shows and cruises but cannot compete with a $50,000 restored car(not that I care about that anyway). The vast majority of people who comment on it all say the same thing, "do not restore it,it is cool the way it is. There is typical light surface rust on the under side of the hood where the battery is, light surface rust on the trunk pan with no holes nor anything that would even resemble a hole. Floors, stub frames, quarter extensions are all solid as a rock. Car was factory undercoated. The interior is 100% original, upholstery(small tear in driver seat),carpet, headliner(split seam;have repro headliner and insulation that go with car),center console, radio, etc. I also have the broadcast sheet for the car.
In the last 2 years it has been converted to Pertronix, new E3 plugs, new billet aluminum rag joint, new fuel pump(still have original),carb rebuilt, and new passenger side rear axle bearing. Car has just under 106,000 miles on it and has never been apart. Besides the fuel pump, alternator, and master cylinder, all components are original in the engine compartment. I also replaced the water pump about 20 years ago(still have original).
As I stated, this car is far from perfect but makes a nice presentable all original car(besides paint). In the nearly 25 years I have owned it, it has never left me stranded. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here or PM me. I can take any pic that you would like to see, will work with you to view the car or have it inspected, and will help with shipping if needed. Of course shipping is the buyers responsibility. I am looking to get something different to enjoy and I am only selling for that reason. I would need the garage space and of course the money to purchase something else. I am seeing what is out there and what the asking prices are for clean rust-free cars and what some are asking for rust buckets! This car can be enjoyed as is or would make an easy cosmetic restoration. I am asking $10,500 and certainly willing to negotiate with a serious buyer. Not to sound rude, but if a reasonable price can't be had, no harm no foul, I'll keep it. After all it is a rust free body!!
