1966 300 Turning Signal

The right side works but the left does not. Bulbs are okay. Power for parking light lead, but no power at turning signal lead. Would a bad flasher cause this? Thanks!
 
If one side flashes, the flasher is good. You can swap the 4-way flasher in to try if you really want to, but that's not it.

Three possibilities come to mind. Bad wiring to left signal, bad switch or my favorite, bad ground. If it's both front and rear, chances are it's the turn signal switch, but some time with a shop manual and a test light are in order before you go to the trouble of changing the switch. If it's just the front (or rear) I'd look at grounds.

If you are checking for power AFTER the flasher, there has to be a load on the circuit (like the light).

Both the front and back do not flash on the left side. Should there be a solid light at the bulb socket with the turning signal turned on? I have a 67 Chrysler shop manual but not a 66. I would think they would be same. The turning signal switch plastic fingers feel like they are okay when I move the lever left and right. I am not looking forward to replacing the turning signal switch if that is the problem. By the way, whenever you respond to my questions on the forum, I find that what you recommend is always correct! Thanks!

I unplugged the flasher and with a test light I had power at one terminal but not the other, no matter if the turning signal lever was moved to the right, left or middle. Based upon my last two responses do you think it is the switch at the steering wheel?

You'll only have power going to the flasher. On the output side of the flasher, you will have pulsing (on and off) power, but ONLY if there is a load (that is a working light) on the circuit. Flashers don't work without a load on the circuit.

To check the switch, turn on your ignition to accessory first and then turn on your right (working) signal. If they are working, you are getting power, the flasher is working, the switch is getting power, and that side of the TS switch is good.

Now unplug the harness, turn on your left signal and check for continuity between the dark green and red, then between the light green and red. Those are coming FROM the TS switch. I have marked the wires for you in this picture.

If no continuity, it's probably the TS switch.

It is the switch. How do you get the plug off of the end of the switch in order to pull it through the steering column? I can’t seem to get the male prongs out of the white plug.
 
How do you get the wires out of this plug?


That is how to do it with the tool. It will start about 7:36.

IIRC, (it's been a while) you can stick a pair of needle nose pliers in there and squeeze the square piece as you pull the wires out.

No, then both left and right would not work, if the flasher was bad.
