I respectively disagree, as I would much rather own an unrestored low mile car that does not require restoration, then a high mileage restoration. They are original only once. In addition, with Monaco, the 440 option is extremely rare as well.

So. . . If the car is an original very low mileage wreck, yer happy with that?

I am referring to the car in question, where no real restoration is required. I do agree generally, if a car needs everything, then the mileage is less Important, unless that car is a factory muscle car e:j,,Challenger,Charger, RoadRunner, etc. Then the mileage is still very Important, as there is the increased likelihood that all the matching numbers components are still there.
A good example would be a 1968 Charger. Ask any guy that has welded one back together, and has a beautiful example when done, if he had preferred to buy an unrestored low mileage original. Lol

Mileage doesn't effect numbers. All one has to do is LOOK.... at the numbers. If a component never had a "number" then date codeing is easy enough for incorrect or missing stuff.
Still, this car could not be duplicated at the asking price, even being priced to high. OH the irony.

My point was that, the less a car had been used increases the likelihood that it has not been tampered with. Less owners means a more clear owner history, and If a person wants a real untouched original, he will pay extra for it. And, there are a bunch of Guys out there that do, regardless of brand.

Pretty amazing at the level of dialogue an old, albiet very clean original.."survivor" car generates. Even if it's overpriced lol

I agree, lots of us love the C bodies, especially when they are like this one. After restoring more than a few old cars, I definitely prefer one not needing paint or interior work.
An amazing example of another brand fan Friend of mine (Ford) that found a 64' Falcon coupe,
mint unrestored original. Just like his first car in 1978. six cylinder car, $7500.00 and he feels he has died and gone to heavan. Original paint,no rust,no Interior issues, never disassembled. So there is always someone out there willing to pay for that truly never been touched car. It's only money they say!Lol

I have to apologize in advance for my Enthusiasm, I clearly am way Biased. Idrive mine a bit, just barely 25,000 actual miles. It has been here for 17 years!

That's a great looking slab! The mag 500s look perfect. Lucky to have a clean, factory assembled original.

The 426W engine was still available in 66 and was rated at 365 HP. The 440 came in at 350 HP.

Wiil, could one get a 426W in a Monaco?

Mighty fine! Very nice car.
Thank you Ripinator! I had my first 66' Polara 500 in 1971 while In Minot. It was red, and I sure miss it. These have become so scarce I gave up on finding a red one. I feel lucky to have found a nice one at all. I bought this one from a 90 year old rancher, that had bought it from his older(?) yikes! Rancher friend. His horses had been rubbing their neck on the Mirror when I first saw it. What a hoot! 18,682 miles on it when it went on the trailer.

Thanks for sharing pics and making the rare comments :)

Time does go by! For eight years the Gas gauge didn't work, and a week ago the car ran out of gas in the yard.DUH! So I put in gas, and filled the car up, and it started working again! I felt really stupid, as I keep all my fuel receipts. I had put two hundred miles on the car since 2013! I have changed my ways. Now, whenever possible, the car gets used. Work, errands, everywhere. I am not getting any younger! Now, If I could just get the gumption to advertise my 67' New Yorker here, Someone would be getting a really nice car! Two hundred miles put on it since 2001! Matt and Tallhair has a picture of it.

The FSM has the 426 included as an option, but doesn't have the 440. I thought that a little odd.

Still digging....

TSB 66-19 makes a reference to the 426SW info in the FSM:http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/TSBs/1966/66-19_page1.jpg et al

Apparently, references to the 426 SW in the 66 FSM are another error in that book??????

The reference to 'not available' is ambiguous at best.

I can't find any reference to a '66 426SW in the TSBs or parts book.

I imagine the books were printed before the cars were assembled?

It may not be worth much, but I was around cars a bunch in 1966, and No Mopars I ever saw had a 426 wedge engine.. Hemi was the first year, and that was it.

I'm going against Will on this one.
1965 - 426W righ to the end of the MY
1966 - 440 right from the beginning of the MY.

The end.

It would appear that way. I have never seen a 66 426W in reality although there is reference to them in early factory literature. Either misprinted or printed before policy change. Not uncommon. Interesting though.

I never paid much attention to the big C bodys back in the day. Dad had Chryslers and Imperials. We used a 69 Polara wagon to tow the Super Bee to the tracks, because it was free, and would hold a bunch of extra parts and tools.
