NOT MINE 1967 Chrysler Newport Coupe $22,500 Hebron, OH

Interesting thing about the tire - I searched but can find NOTHING about Stratton-brand tires. I wonder if that's a bias or radial tire. Here's one of my rims before I had my Hankook's mounted to it:
had bias ply bfg 's on it when i got it. bought the radial Stratton super steels back in June 1987 and replaced them with the Hankooks almost 2 years ago do to age. the Strattons only had maybe 3 thousand miles on them took them off.

That's the wider tire - wider than 8.25 x 14 yes? Or is it a taller tire - same width?

Does the 8.55 tire come on (does it fit properly) the 5.5 inch rims?
My experience tells me the 8.55 was installed on 14x6 rims.
8.25 on 5.5 rims.
The 8.55 is wider and TALLER than 8.25.

8.55 ~ H78 series width ~ P225 - P235 in today's world.

The parts book says 6" rim for 8.55.

Very common back in the day, quite possible the vinyl top was dealer installed.
My Newport was born without the vinyl top,but was dealer installed.
I recall vinyl top install and replacement shops were common in that era. Wonder if a dealer installed vinyl top would have had more protection under the top to reduce risk of rust (having had more paint perhaps than a factory vinyl top car)

I used elmers school glue to mask the ribs before I sprayed the centers with flat black.
I never would’ve thought of that! The glue stuck just well enough to prevent paint “bleed,” but easy to remove. Looks like it worked great!

Unlike " factory" vinyl top cars, which had only primer under the top to save money,my car had body color paint under what was left of the dealer installed vinyl top.
The roof and pillars were fine but the rear window was rotted out. Typical of any 68 regardless of vinyl top or no top.
Also being " dealer installed" I discovered missing screws and broken C pillar trim during my restoration.
The glue was hastiky applied right on the factory paint.
Obviously it did not last over the 20 years she sat outside, lol

First Pic is 20 years ago when dragged inside in "as found" condition.

I recall seeing Stratton branded tires a LONG TIME AGO. I think it was an off brand of another manufacturer. There were many tires like that over the years. If I remember correctly when I worked at K-Mart in the late 70's, the top-of-the-line radial was a Uniroyal Zeta. I think the other lines were made by Armstrong. Many tire places such as Tires Incorporated had tire lines under their own branding but were made by major manufacturers.

“Mum’s” ’67 Newport was shod in the mid 1980s with Empco tires that were sold by (IIRC) Discount Tire Co., an Arizona-based chain with stores mostly in the Southwestern states including Colorado (where I was raised).
