my Fury came with a 400 in it(the guy I bought it from put it in and stole all the parts off of it) and I'm using parts off my 383 to get the 400 running til I rebuild my 383. it's been a long time since I took the 383 apart and I'm trying to figure out how the alternator, pulleys, and belts go. does anyone have pictures of their big block front v-belt setups? any pictures would help. mine had the idler pulley on it. the fury has no a/c and the 383 came out of a newport that, i think, had a/c. really any pictures will help of the belts and pullies. side ones that show pulley groove
alignment. Thanks the picture is of the engine how I got it.

Here's a few shots I took of a parts car with a 383, non A/C car, 65 not 67 but I don't think a lot changed, may help some.029.jpg032.jpg034.jpg035.jpg

Only problem I see that may cause you grief when using the 383 stuff on that 400 is the Harmonic damper is different (the 400 looks to have the cast crank damper). Anyways, see if the damper is thicker than the one on the 383, if it is then you may have some belt alignment problems because of the crank pulley being farther out. Also, I would mock things up without the idler (at first). I don't see why a non A/C car would have need of the idler, even with power steering.

Thanks Everyone for the pics!!! It is non a/c and my 383 was an a/c car so thats part of my problem and because of that I have to wrong (smaller, not as deep) water pump pulley! guess I have to buy one. there goes another $50. Thanks guys!

I can help with that :)

I'm pretty sure this is an "unmolested" example of how your car started.
