1968 300 440 TNT Newby Questions

1. First thing I would do is verify Engine. Run you Vin # thru a decoder such as " 440 Magnum Network " or other site. The 5th digit of the vin is engine. K is 440 4V , L is 440 HP / 375 , M is Special V8.

2. Run you Data Tag on Fender thru a Fender Tag Decoder. You can try MyMopar.com , Yearone www.drivinithome.com , or other site.

3.Red Cable is almost always Positive/+ . Picture shows it running to Starter Solenoid Relay on Fender. The ground wire is Black....Negative/- and normally runs to the engine block. My car is grounded on my AC compressor.

4. I found my best source for a gas tank and sending unit was RockAuto.

5. Carpet and sound deadner I found at Rockauto also . It is AAC brand , one of the best and 20% or more cheaper. . On the other interior parts I have no experience.

Good luck on getting it running. My car had been sitting for 11 years and 2 months later just got it running. Be happy to help any way I can.

Thanks for all the Info, this will save me a lot of time. I got the motor to turn slowly today, added some oil to the cylinders to soak overnight.
Maybe tomorrow if all goes well I can get it to start, Fingers Crossed :)
I will post what I find from your, Oh Vin does have L.

1 to 1 should be attached this is Battery positive.

#2 is most likely your ground and should go to a intake manifold bolt. If the cable is red in color it should be change to the correct black color cable designating the Negative so that no mix up of proper connection to the battery or when jump starting the car.

You were spot on with the cables, the ground is a red cable. I didn't see it till you pointed it out.
Once they were correctly hooked up and all the terminals were cleaned the starter came to life.
Oiled the cylinders to soak overnight.

I would highly recommend pulling the valve covers and rocker shafts and spraying all the valves with penetrating oil and using a plastic dead blow to bump all the valves until they all return freely. You can usually tell by the sound of the valves against the seats. Getting all the pushrods in place when you progressively tighten the rocker shafts can take a bit of patience, but it's not bad.

If that still has the Holley 4160 on it, it's likely to leak badly and run like schmidt. A 4160 should come with it's own fire extinguisher. I would also file or sand the contact points lightly as well, just to clean off any oxidation or light corrosion.

I'd like to see how they added the two additional speakers to the dash. Thanks.
Here ya go grumpy cat...

Geez Louise, nice what looks to be a original condition car, but you got your work cut out for ya!

I think figuring out what that little knob on the dash is the least of your problems.
heh, simple 2 little screws, pull it out and see what/how many wires are attached.

BTW I'm seeing quite a few vert's like this in the Plymouth department, same age range and shape on Craigslist listed in the $1,500 to $2,500 range depending on the amount of body rot and all have the trashed out interiors just like yours.

.

Seriously.
I can see it now.
Part way into the 68's final year with all the engineers now working on Fusies, the douche nozzles from Marketting walk down the hall and say, HEY! We're adding two more speakers to the dash.
And we need it by Friday.
:BangHead:

Betchcha they ran out to Radio Shack and bought every type of speaker grill they could find.

Same speaker grill used on the B bodies. Not as integrated as later models as the dash was not designed for stereo speakers. Figuring the 67 models were probably in design back in 65 & 66.

I don't know how serious about this car you are but that TNT engine IMHO should have the heads removed to inspect the cylinders before you go spinning it up and maybe clogging up the rings and possibly gouging a cylinder which can lead down the 'Stroke It!' road. heh.

Well. . . I don't know if I'd pull the heads, but if you can find a fiber optic inspection viewer, you could take a look at the cylinders that way. In any event, you should pull all the plugs and fill the cylinders with ATF and let it sit for a few days. The previous suggestion regarding removal of the valve covers and lubricating the valve stems is also a must - especially the intake valves. If an intake valve sticks, you will end up, at minimum, with a bent push-rod - or worse - a damaged piston. Take your time with the re-awakening of your engine, and try to do no harm along the way.
