1968 Chrysler Newport Custom 727 Torque converter options

Just put in a comp cams k-21-223-4 kit in my 383. I still have the stock converter in the transmission. What would be a good rpm torque converter to put in. I also still have the stock gears which I believe are 2.96. The car gets up and goes but it feels like it its getting held back. It doesn't stall out or anything.
 
Second gear kickdown how'd you do that still learning.
 
I have a Hughes 2000 10" stall. Hardly notice it unless you jump on it out of the light. Makes it a bit more lively. I still need to get my 2.9s out and get 3.23. Think 3.23 are best if you still want to run highway speeds. Had them in my 67 coronet and it seem to still get decent mpg. Also installed shift kit that took out that 1 to 2 delay. Much firmer shift. The guy that built my trans worked for b&m and actually told me to go Hughes. I've been happy with his advice. he told me with my mild cam don't go any higher then 2500 but recommended the 2000 for me. My 440 only makes about 425hp so she'll never be fast but quick enough for a big car.
 
I know how to power flush a tranny and how to drop a pan.
Period.
And I'm keeping it that way.
 
While it's not a huge cam, it's in a 383 in a heavy car. If it was me, before I put a convertor int it, I'd change the gears to 3.23s if it doesn't already have them. If it does and it feels sluggish, I'd aim to keep the stall speed lower - 2K-2200 at most, and if you can go to a company like PTC that will make yours to your specs. "Cheap" and "convertor" do not belong in the same sentence. So plan to spend $4-600 to get something worthwhile. Personally - I think a gearing change would be more beneficial.
 
Yea I will look into that, by any chance do you guys know what case is on the Newports can't find a number 742? maybe looking for a sure grip whole center, found a 742 case one for $400 which seems too cheap but it is freshly rebuit. I have the 2.76 gears in it still so i figured it would be best to do that, I mean the car doesn't look to stall out for anything. She gets up and goes but I can't even do a burn out it just goes.
 
It's a combination of too much overhanging the rear wheels, and not enough torque. I had a smaller MP grind in my '71 Newport with a stock 4bbl intake and 2bbl logs. With 3.55s, a Sure Grip, and 275/60/15s it wouldn't spin the tires much. Maybe a couple turns. But - I added an NOS system it would. Then I ripped the entire sprague assembly off the transmission case...lol.
