Guys, what moves the reverse light switch to turn on and off on the column? Does the switch fit into a slot or does it get moved by something protruding from the column?
 
The switch is at the base of the column, (inside the car) and there should be a roll pin on the column. These switches have a nylon pin that are often broken off. If you haven't yet pull the switch and check the the pin on the switch isn't broken and the roll pin is there.

Isn't the switch for 1968 on the TRANSMISSION .....

just the neutral safety switch which is a single wire
