1969 Chrysler 300 Convertible - BaT Auction - Massapequa, New York

This 1969 Chrysler 300 convertible is one of approximately 1,933 built for the model year and was purchased by the seller on BaT in June 2020. Finished in blue over black vinyl, the car is powered by a 440ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and equipped with a power-operated convertible top, aftermarket 15″ wheels, and power windows. Work during current ownership has included rebuilding the carburetor, power steering pump, and steering box, along with replacing the shocks, leaf springs, thermostat, and fuel pump. This 300 Convertible is offered with a service manual, tonneau cover, car cover, and New York registration in the seller’s name.
The exterior is finished in blue and was repainted some time during previous ownership. Features include a replacement power-operated black soft top, chrome bumpers and badges, hide-away headlights, and fender-mounted turn signals. Paint cracking and rust is noted around the left rear wheel well, body filler is noted in the right quarter panel, and other imperfections include rust on the left inner trunk extension, a patch panel inside the left rear quarter panel, a dent in the left front fender, and various chips, scratches, and chrome pitting.
Aftermarket 15″ Motorwheel wheels wear 225/70 Grand Sport Radial G/T tires that show signs of cracking. The brake booster was reportedly rebuilt under prior ownership while the brake fluid was recently flushed. The suspension received replacement leaf springs along with bushings and shocks at all corners according to the seller, who notes the car is in need of an alignment. The power steering pump and steering box is also said to have also been overhauled during current ownership and replacement power steering hoses were installed.

I could comment on various incorrect things but will just say this: Q4 yet someone repainted it an incorrect shade of blue?!!!

From last year's BAT info, it looks like the color is an old repaint, from prior to both of the sellers' (last year's and the current one's) getting a hold of the car. Doesn't change the fact that a Q4 was lost :soapbox:
 
It could be a good driver if bought right and kudos to the seller for showing a lot of the defects.

To bad the original color is lost, but I think a repaint would be in this car's future anyway. My issue would be how bad it is under the paint and the used car lip stick that been applied haphazardly.

I'm also trying to decide if I should hate or like the wheels....
 
I hate to tell you boys, taking in the condition seen that.as a barging. Not a fan of the wheels, it's still a high quality driver. I see no rust so what's the problem.

When I bought my avatar car to the left in 1972 off of a used car lot in Birmingham, Michigan with 29K miles on it, I put a set of those wheels on my car then since my car only had the wheel covers. I like them because they resemble the recall wheels and were also made by Motor Wheel - the style was called Exeter. I still have them.

I think I'd like them a lot better without that style of white letter tires on them. The white letters make it look too busy.

A small white letter might look OK, but my preference would be just a plain blackwall. A really thin striped whitewall could work but I would still prefer blackwalls (as is my preference with everything without wheel covers)

There is no right and wrong on this one John, but I agree with your comment regarding the busyness. However, I ran white walls on my car with the Exeters as full size cars of this era always looked wrong with just blackwalls since these were more of a luxury image ride more than a sporty ride such as the B bodies. The Hurst was a clear exception, however.

Very nice Chrysler 300 with the 440 numbers matching engine. New interior, new convertible, steering gear and line. The body is solid and in very good shape. Not a show car but a great daily driver. Very rare car that should go up in value.

I just got it home lots of snow on the ground still. I haven't had allot of time to start going thru it. We plan on driving it allot this summer. I do believe it's only has 47;000 miles on it is not perfect but that's ok with us

Nice score.. by the way! Those are Oldsmobile wheels on there.. I think they looks nice, not what I would have chosen, but not my car either lol..

What are your plans for her?? Carlise in July????
 
Lol I have some stock Chrysler rims I haven't decided what look I want yet. She is a driver not a show car she would need allot of work for a Carlisle show

Those are Oldsmobile wheels on there.
I'm not so sure of that. While they were offered on the Olds, I think Motor Wheel offered them in the aftermarket just like they did the Magnum wheels.

The proof would be if they have a GM 4 3/4" bolt circle to Mopar 4 1/2" bolt circle adaptor under the wheels or not. If aftermarket, and I think they are, they will be 4 1/2" BC.
