Not that I had one shined on me from behind when 16 but was not the red one on the driver's side?

The Ruby as they like to call it was on the driver side, they'd generally just leave it up pointed forward.

As an aside, this is still common practice in government procurement. Generally, there are rules that public agencies must use competitive bidding to make large purchases (large may be defined differently in different jurisdictions). However, it's an expensive process, so agencies are frequently authorized to piggy-back on other agencies' bidding process.

So it looks like some regional or local PD used the CHP contract to buy a patrol car. In a way, that makes the car nearly as interesting as a CHP car. You'd just have to find out what department bought it and put it into service, if possible.

If I was to get this car I would restore it to "as delivered" by Dodge to the CHP.
No equipment, no markings.

If I knew the agency that used it I would restore as that.

How could you figure that out Alan? Is there a way through the California DMV or CHP?

Play detective.

Look at all the equipment holes and start asking questions, often the seller knows and in many cases it is close to home.

Neither the DMV or the CHP have records on these cars.

It still reasonable at $565 with 2 days to go.

I'm surprised the car is still intact......440 still in it, dual snorkel, the white CHP steering wheel has to be worth something.

It went for 4k last time on ebay.

I was just at a show yesterday and there was a 1971 Santa Clara County Sharif car there...

Virtually identical, one would need to start looking at some of the internal equipment mountings.

I think that's the only way to "restore" it. Making it a CHP car wouldn't be any different than taking a 318 Charger and making it a clone of a Hemi or 6-Pack. Not necessarily anything wrong with that, but it's not a restoration in my book.
