For Sale 1969 Imperial 2 Dr - $4000

Being in Australia is exactly why I have to ask these questions regarding prices, if one is to take Hemmings as a guide, then I'd say a '69 LeBaron coupe would be 20K for say a condition 2 car, while the guy down the street may only want 12K for a similar car. Surely there's some kind of guide, I read comments on here all the time where people put their opinions forward on how much cars are worth.

it is very difficult to judge.
The market is not as comparable as on B & E-Bodies in example.

A real tx9 black Imperial 2dr might fetch 25k $ in condition 2 while a T7 brown one will be available for a long time in the same condition at 15k$

It is colours and options which make a car more desireable to some resulting in different prices.

Imperial projects are difficult anyway as they are hard to restore. Try finding parts.

So, according to your logic, there's no reliable price guide. A reply like yours is useless to someone looking to buy a specific type of car. Mine is a serious and genuine question and I'm interested in genuine feedback, not smart *** remarks.

No, there is no price guide. How much are you willing to pay? That's how much it is worth, period. We get lots of "what's it worth" BS here. If $4000 USD, plus 2k to ship down under is over your budget, then keep looking. Basically, the reply is spot on, only you can answer the question.

Yes, Charles is correct, as this Imperial has been listed before on Craigslist. I have talked with both the owner and his son over the last 4 months and still can't get enough information to decide if the car is worth bothering with. The owner is up in age, and isn't really sure he wants to part with it, but at the same time, he knows he will never be physically be able to do anything with it. And the son just seems to want to get it sold. I have asked for more photos of the rusty areas and can't get any. The interior has obviously been exposed to a lot of moisture from the photos I did get since there are rust spots on things like the horn ring, belt buckles and other interior bright trim pieces, but the seats themselves look pretty nice - leather buckets with center arm rest it appears. It is a nice gold color, one of my favorites, but I also see some underhood shots that show some primer just below the cowl on the firewall where the voltage regulator, wiper motor, etc mount, and the owner says I must be wrong when I asked about it. The air cleaner is also not on the car, but the owner says he has it. I mostly wanted to know if mice have been in the interior and I just can't find out - they won't answer the question. After the first go around, I pretty much gave up the pursuit, and then about two weeks ago, the son sent me an email asking if I was still interested. I then tried again to get answers to my questions, and got nowhere. I did get from them that there are some holes in the trunk floor though, and from the photos, it looks like the car has been in a shed, but the back side of the shed is open to the elements and the decklid and surrounding trunk area have been outside all this time it appears from the flaking paint. The owner also disclosed that when he got the car, about 10 years ago, it didn't run then, but now the ad seems to be saying it ran 10 years ago? If you are interested, all I can say is good luck. It actually doesn't look all that bad, but the car is across the country from me and I already have a B9 blue 69 Imperial coupe with a white top/interior that is also low miles, so I really don't need it. But if you don't have one, you might be able to pursue it more successfully than I was able to.

I don't think it's BS to ask such questions, much like someone in your heck of the woods asking about prices for Australian cars (yes, some people have bought cars over here and taken them to the USA), it's just a way to not get ripped off unnecessarily, nothing to do with my budget. If such questions bother some people that much, it really makes me wonder about the usefulness of whatever knowledge they have. To clarify; the reason I asked in the first place is because '69-'71 coupes are rarely advertised, unlike say, a '72 or '73 4-door LeBaron, which come up quite often, prices for those are fairly well established. Never mind fellows, I'll do my own research. Good grief!

To avoid frustration on your part in the future, I would recommend using this site as a guide. It is the most accurate one out there based on my past experience. Be sure to look closely at the condition chart as well, as most of the cars we see these days are at the bottom end of their scale. Given this chart, I would say the Imperial is probably priced fairly well given what we know. I would expect some electrical repairs given that moisture has been in the interior, and these cars weren't easy to work on in that regard when they are fairly new under good conditions. You will likely also expect to do some rust repair, but it is hard to tell just how much given the unwillingness of the seller(s) to provide more information. You can expect to put much more money into the car than you will pay for it just to make it a driver, more than likely. Good luck with your decision.

Actually I don't mind the brown too much, there are worse colors but it would have to be a much better color combo for me to bite on one of these at this point.

Would be a good parts car, indeed. But when the seller is even to lazy answering questions to sell it, I would assume he will never ever part it out. ;) And buying another whole car is no option.
