109,000 miles. the engine is REALLY clean on the inside. compression check revealed that #1 has 35lbs of compression and the rest have 85-95lbs. She's been sitting up since 1987. Heads are off and the cylinders look a little worn of course but NO scaring. I'm having the heads redone first. No cracked valves that I can see. While I have the heads off I may as well pull the motor and clean it real good and paint it. May as well change the oil pan gasket and the oil pump. What else should I do while I have it out???

Just rebuild it,all the work involved in pulling it and with over 100,000 miles it's tired, the cam is worn, also don't forget to have hardned seats installed .

Being low compression on one cylinder it can be the piston rings, i agree with Dale, best to put a rebuild kit through the motor , if there is next to no lip on the cylinder bores then you dont need new pistons after inspection for damage, same with the crank, if it will handle a simple linish, no need to regrind that either. But yes a new cam and lifter package and installation of a quality double row timing chain is a must. Check the oil pump too, that's very important.

Just be sure to get a quality cam when/if you replace it. I have been hearing too many stories from Mopar guys who put in new cams lately even with the appropriate cam lube for start up and end up with flat cams in no time. This stuff coming from China is crap and you need to know where the one you are buying is really made and get some feedback on the quality brands before you buy.

The last cam you want to buy is a Comp Cam. Lobe failure rate on their cams are totally unacceptable.
