How long did people keep the plastic on the seats back in the day?

My grandfather, had it installed new 1960 Ramble (he smoked a pipe) had it there the entire life of the car perhaps 15 years and junked it, The headliner was a gorgeous shade of pale yellow, he died @ 84, in 1977, not from smoke and not from WW1 where he was gassed by the Germans. He carried bricks @ the age of 14 at the brick yard where he worked., later in life he was bent over at the waist (bad back). They were a tough generation, but they paid extra for nice interior.

How long did people keep the plastic on the seats back in the day?

Clear aftermarket seat covers were, once upon a time, the thing you did to keep the cloth seats looking good. Dad had them in his Camaro. That was back before Scotchgard was invented.
