Hi Dave,

I own a 69 Police Polara from the CHP.
Here are some pics:

it still has original paint and was untouched when I bought it. Been sitting for over 20 years.
Working on it since 4 years now. Had lots of rust (all floors gone under the rubber mat).

Carsten,

Cool car!! Should start a thread on it!

Might wanna check out over on the bluesmobile forums. The guys there would get a big kick out of your car. Also there is a lot of CHP info over there if you are interested. Mostly 74-77 formals. But still might be neat, if you would like.

The 1969 Dodge Monaco is the "Holy Grail" of Police cars. My 1970 Plymouth Fury is second most desirable. My understanding is mousture builds up under the rubber floor mat and excellerates the rust. My Fury III Pursuit had carpet and it is original. I'm contemplating another '70 but may go another direction for my next car (1966 Olds Toronado). Anyone know of nice examples out there???

btw: it is a Polara, they didn't use the more expensive Monacos in 1969

Toronado's with the 455 were screaming fast in their day...by far the fastest FWD cars.

and an absolute expensive horror story when any part of the drive train needs repair. You can't give me a Toro or an Eldo or a FWD Riv.

I recently have looked at both but the Toronado is No. 1 with me. I had a collection Popular Mechanics from 55 to early 70's growing up. I remember on the front cover a 66 Toronado in deep Purple color and next to it a highly detailed chasis of the same car complete with motor and trans. The cord grill, overstated wheel openings, elusive taillight treatment and complimenting interiors. And don't forget the barrell speedometer. Many cars when designed seem to have a emphasis on one end of the car for styling and not the rest of the car. This car was well thought out in ALL areas. It appears the money was spent and not limited to one area or the other. In that respect I feel my 59 Imperial Custom Coupe was also built with the same mindset.

Like the first Cord-inspired Toronados, front drive is sort of a turnoff though. The Cadillac Eldorado even looks better to me, the Oldsmobile is historically more interesting.
