Old Man with a Hat
Agreed but Id need to see the tag as any potential buyer will
300 factory console cars DO exist! I lived in Atlanta for 3 years during my pediatric ER rotation and bought a new 97' Jeep Wrangler right off the truck in white in Cleveland. (I bought the first one available with the new round headlights) I made the mistake of accepting the 2.5 4cyl auto with air and should've waited a month for the 6 cyl but I was in a hurry to get down to the ATL. This thing was a dog with the A/C on and wouldn't get out of its own way. For those of you who know what traffic is like on I-75 in ATL, it's 6 lanes wide open at 80+ MPH! I was gonna DIE in this effin Jeep, I needed to keep it OFF the highway and just drive it around town which was STILL a crap shoot of death in ATL. Rents are high close to town inside I-275 circle so I convinced another Peds doc and 2 RN's also new to town to rent this big *** 4 bedroom house close to the hospital. I took the entire basement, studded up another bedroom and moved in my tools and had a little workshop set up which of course puzzled my geeky colleagues who were all clueless. I needed a dresser or something to put my scrubs, clothes, socks and underwear in so I began hitting the neighborhood garage sales around the corner. FIRST garage sale I walk into had a nice oak Armoire for $50...SOLD! But THEN I saw it in the back corner of their 24x40 extended garage covered up. I asked the girl what it was...she replied "my husbands late grand fathers old Chrysler from California that was shipped here 5 years ago and hasnt been touched since". My ears perked up of course and I asked if I could see it? "Sure...and please make an offer for it because my hubster couldn't turn a wrench if his life depended on it and I want it out of here!" I lifted up the cover and discovered a 1970 300 4 door in gold with black vinyl interior, buckets, console and a 440 4 bbl with 78k on the odo in gorgeous condition wearing a black California tag and a blue DOD officers decal on windshield OH yes you better know I bought it as hubby pulls in with his little Mazda sedan and accepted $800 cash! I had it towed home around the corner and began the ressurrection Immediately. New Battery, carb rebuild kit, tune up, change all fluids, new dual exhaust with pep boys chrome tips, replace rubber brake lines and pads/shoes, and she ran like a top! My roomates with their BMW's, a Volvo and Mitsu 3000GT in arrest me red were all mortified shaking their heads watching me go to town like a nut covered in elbow grease for a week! UNTIL I packed all their pompous asses in it, hopped on I-75 and threw down the hammer. Heads flew back, the 440 roared through 2 chamber flow masters and their jaws dropped I just smiled and said "MOPAR BABY!" We rolled that car HARD around the south for 3 years without fail full of my friends because in those days, all we did was work and party our butts off till the wee hours. It was so long it would barely fit in the hospital parking garage without having to back up around the corners once to clear some pick up trucks poking out. I always prayed for a spot First 2 floors as these were reserved for advanced practitioners etc. ( so I usually drove the little Jeep to work). I had a bumper sticker on trunk that read "SIZE MATTERS" and the car was well known at my work as Randys Party Barge. The BEST thing about her was hopping on I-75 in midtown Atlanta, "IDLING" at 70 MPH pulling that big Chrysler Grille within INCHES of a Mercedes, watching them glance in the mirror in total fright because I looked like I could just TEAR rear right through them...and they would move over quickly! It was like Moses parting of the sea! An interesting phenomenon I showed everybody countless times over. In 2000, my rotation was up and I had to go back to Cleveland. I was gonna tow my Jeep home with the 300 and I probably should've, but I put her on Craigslist and she sold in 2 hours for $2300 to an old guy who was happy as a clam and fell in love with her. Funny...I'm 53 now and on my way to becoming HIM (IF I'm lucky) (The Jeep was stolen out of the Cleveland Clinic parking lot almost as soon as I got back!) (A-Holes did me a FAVOR lol!)Those are factory console brackets, linkage and the courtesy lights and wiring for the console. Yes, it looks like a stray fuel filter and a non-stock shifter boot. Floor shift 300s did not have a shifter boot. My guess is the console is gone and the current owner may have added the boot to hide the linkage.
No of ALL the Mopars I've owned, it's one of only a few I just never got pics of! I remember the seats were much like late 60's B body style with chrome stand headrests. It had manual windows and no post between windows. Hidden headlights and full size wheel covers that were rather plain. Body was spotless and super clean. That's an awesome story! Any pics of the 300?
