Nice car at a fair price but the green interior and flesh colored phone kill it for me.

I agree that's a lot of green. But it's a Mercury.

You know, with a bluetooth headset and some creativity, there has to be a way to make that phone work. That totally fits the vibe of a lot of our more upmarket C's.

Damn, more junk to look for on CL now!

If it's a huge passenger car, got a V8, is RWD... I'm in.
The world got too small by 1980...:(

I'm willing to give the world until about 1992 before hitting the toilet, but I'm sure we're on the same channel.
We absolutely are.
What car(s) are you using to refer to the 1992 cutoff point?
Mopar C's was 1978.
Ford & Mercury was 1978 and Lincoln was 1979.
GM B, C & D's were 1976.

I wasn't necessarily thinking automotive, more "life experiences"... how much of a role WWII gen still played, stuff like that.

Automotive 1992? Hmm, Iacocca still running Chrysler Corporation, Viper debuts, probably a few other things.

Specific car-wise? 1989, last RWD V8 mopar. Had a bunch of 5th ave's, not as huge but still enjoyed them. Plus a few cars after 1980 that I wouldn't kick otta my garage.

There's one of these, a little older and light mint green for sale at 1 of my auto parts stores I frequent. I'll have to snap a pic of it, it's a cream puff.

I could actually run the date up to about 2012, which I believe is the last year production of the Panther platform, or the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis. My 1997 Mercury directly replaced my 1988 Diplomat as a daily driver. It took me years to seriously consider driving/owning anything but a Mopar. What eventually forced my hand was that the current rear-drive Chryslers were too new and out of my price range; and that if the Panther was okay for police and taxi drivers, I would take a chance on it.

I have been looking at this car on CL as well. I like it, but not enough to open my wallet.

If it were my car, I'd talk on the phone even if it didn't work, and yell important sounding stuff while sitting at a traffic light, like "DAMMIT MC GARRET IF WE DON'T STOP THAT SHIPMENT THERE'S GOING TO BE A STATUE OF FIDEL CASTRO IN FRONT OF CITY HALL!!" and roar away in a cloud of single exhaust pipe dust.

Why would anyone want to buy that ungainly looking turd when you could have a stylish fuselage car? Maybe that is why I hardly even remember that particular model. It looks heavy and ponderous and the front end styling is just boring. No wonder it has low miles on it!

I understand it's a non ac car as well which pairs nicely with the 429.

Looks to be 124,000 miles given the wear on the carpet and the rip in what little is seen of the seats. Missing the air cleaner decal. Given that the same practically holds true for the big Mercs of this era. Not worth more than $2500 that we accord our Formals. At 3K this would be sitting around my area until a flipper bought it which is not the same as us. I saw a 68 Monterey recently that sold for $2300 three weeks ago. Turned up on Craigslist at $6950 with the typical flipper speak. Didn't stay up too long after I posted a commentary on what the car really sold for on Craigslist. The flipper was not pleased. This 71 will always be worth less than a 67-68 given the body style.
