Dave Wheeler's 70 SFGT 440 6 pac would be comparable in selling price - another beautifully restored and extremely rare example. Dave's car would be worth more in my opinion if it had its original engine, which it does not. Derek's car is all there, and in my opinion (which counts for little for anyone else except me - lol), worth every penny of the asking price.

Any nibbles Derek?

Daves car is in a league of its own with the engine combo and rareity and would think it would garner 6 figures for sure...any less would be a insult to the vehicle imo
 
The “original” X3 TX9 71 GT sold in the mid $50’s a few years back.

I think Derek’s 71 GT complete restoration is fairly priced, and represents a good value, of a very rare MoPar muscle car IMHO.

That doubled in value in less than five years ... remarkable ! Then again, we've been under valued for a long time and in many instances still are .

This car is a super deal for someone.
 
I wish the seller luck, I just don't see it getting near that price. I hate that as it has obviously been a labor of love to get it where it is. I'm just not sure the market can support a price like that.
 
Good luck with the sale, Critter. One of the finest chunks of work I've seen on this forum ... outside this forum for that matter.

if the money spent is recovered, that'd be great. then there's the value of the time spent. potentially in the hundreds of hours. the research. the stress. someone will likely get all that for free. buy and drive and not think twice. what ever must be going on in the background, i hope it all works out.

I don't think I am aware of this car. I am aware of a TX9 71 GT with incorrect stripes and an unrestored undercarriage being sold and then an attempt was made to flip it for big money but I'm not sure if that car ever was re-sold.

I would love to own Derek's GT and wish him luck with the sale. Sadly, it is not within my budget. It is a very unique car with the Brougham interior and a gold stripe. I don't think very many 71 GT's with gold stripes were made. I think it should be put through a major auction with a reserve.

The highest price sale of a '71 GT that I am aware of is the low option April Metallic Green GT with white stripes, green bench seat interior, A/C and no vinyl roof that sold for $40k about 15 years ago (or more). That car had an over the top nut and bolt restoration by a high quality restoration shop and the car was a southern car, I believe from North Carolina and the only rust through on the car was no more than a half dollar in size. I saw the car before it was restored and IMHO it should have just had some touch up paint and body work, detailing etc. as it would have made for an incredible survivor for us 71 GT fans to use as reference.
 
Gotta stop looking and comparing this one to other C bodies on the value side. The Rapid Transit System was still alive and well in '71. Anyone trying to collect the set needs this one to complete it. 90K for a #1 car is not out of the ball park when you already have the other four; Cuda, Road Runner, GTX and Duster 340. '71 SFGT has got to be the hardest one to get.

That's an interesting way of seeing things. I never even thought of it that way. Just like any other sale, it's a matter of finding that guy. Anyone know of any Rapid Transit System collector's?

If the labor cost is factored in you would have to triple the price. This is a labor of love, no monetary value can be placed on that. Perhaps the cost of a high end shrink for a few years might compare.
I know that projects like this, in the past and present, have kept me from doing bad things to myself, and others.

Hi Dave,

when it was for sale for 29k $ it was bought by Scott L. from Oklahoma.
He advertised it in the 50s for a while. From him it went to Randy in AZ who currently owns it AFAIK.

A GT collector in Idaho has it along with my former '71 GT project & a '70 6bbl GT that is under restoration. Pics of this April Metallic Green GT show up on this forum now and then. It was in Connecticut when it was purchased by the current owner.
