I'll add the rest of the story. There are only four separate pics.

SELLER DESCRIPTION $4800 or Trade and Cash

Listen up boys and girls and get this straight I do not want to sell this car. What you're looking at is a 1971 dodge polara. It is an X sheriffs car

The interior sucks the body straight small amount of rust here and there which is easily fixable if you wish to. It's got cop tires ,cop shocks cop suspension , etc. it has up perfectly running 383 big block back by 727 automatic transmission .

The car is ugly and the offends almost everybody unless you get it. It is a real X sheriffs car. Now for the movie purists I don't want to hear any **** I realize the actual car was a 1974 Dodge Monaco but they look identical . Has fuel-cell in the trunk.

If it sounds like I'm disgruntled and pissed I am. The wife is making me listed. So I really don't care if anyone buys it or doesn't. But I said I would list it and those of your merit know what I'm talking about.

The car is fast fast fast you can barely rest your foot on the gas pedal to do legal freeway speed . Once again the car is old ugly dirty uncomfortable and I advise you not to buy this car but if you want to come see it give me a call at 650-8635 two nine four.

Title is clean and in my name but the reg is out is about 600 bucks to register I called. Drove this car all the way back from Chico last week with no problems.

As you can tell by the ad I really don't want to sell it and will not entertain bullshit offers or people daydreaming and telling me they want to use it as a demolition derby car or wanted donated.

If you know anything about Mopar you know how expensive these cars are parts and everything else.

4800 or poss trade and cash. I care so little about selling this car moment gonna bother to correct the spelling.

Could be the real deal!!! .......white steering wheel , holes in the A pillar...

Looks identical to a '74 Monaco? Cmon man!:BangHead:

Too bad he doesn't list the VIN or have a fender tag pic. I think to be in the conversation at $4800 it should be a 440HP. Too bad he didn't post some better pics to go fishing with.

i dunno,i kinda like the guys ad.
its got a good hook.
price will prolly go way down if yer standing in front of him w cash too.

btw if one of you guys get this car.
hit me up i have a used/but like nos light for the a pillar.
id sell it dirt cheap to see it back onna cop car :)

Im with you guys.

yup the steering wheel is the only thing "persuasive" but I am willing to bet its "real".

but, he/she self-admitted isnt trying very hard to sell it. the writeup and pics, as shown now, MAY make it hard to attract someone really serious about such a car.

and a minor pet peeve of mine too. why is EVERY 1969-1977 C-Body Mopar sedan a "Bluesmobile"? don't answer - its rhetorical :)

This was not a CHP car. It was part of a collection of Sheriff cars that were sold a few years back. Similar to CHP cars with the white steering wheel.

argh...reply to cl email.
i fecking Hate it when cl sellers do that....
i too was wondering what the fender tag-s said.
if its a cop car it should have 2 tags yes?

I have no need for a CHP car....just a DK N , or U coded car is what is important to me.
This one is too rough for me

Well, it could look identical to a 74... if you, um.. don't look at it.

I'm not a big service car guy. I get it, they were awesome, but I see the work guys put down on them and while amazed and inspired, I'd just assume throw the ball of wax at "grandpa's" car.

All that being said, service car or no, that's a mean looking year.. hope someone saves her.

Nowhere does this one claim to be a chp car, right?

youre right it didnt say that.. but that white wheel as we know is indicative of CHP cars. I was just referring to the big clue that led me to bet its a real cop car since seller was "light" on the build details/fender tag stuff.

there's a thread(s) here .. somewhere .. where

(1) we talked about FLOCK (or two?) of 70's era county/sheriffs cop cars (B's and C's) that turned up 7-8(?) years ago (some Sonoma county green and whites and several black and whites people thought were CHP's but werent) like hergfest said, and

(2) that many of these cars appeared to have used some CHP specs back in their day.

here's one of these Sonoma Cty cars perhaps??: For Sale - 1969 Plymouth Fury I Police (4 Door Sedan)

anyway, hope this Polara one gets saved. its rough but there just aint enough detail here to really assess it.

yup. most have two tags some three.
the regular one(s) on all cars (VIN, options, build date, order number, trim, etc) and then the "special" one ("handling", "order' etc) indicative of fleet cars.

as others including me have noted, this a real cop car and even hergfest recognizes it part of herd of them that turned up a few years back that all kinda looked like this (faded paint, rough interiors, minimal rust etc).

the tags would aid in the confirmation of that along with better pics to assess condition/completeness as it sits now.

I think it would be tough sledding to find a nice example of a ex-cop car that is original and in good shape. At least there seems to be more and more restored cars out there. I think for me a '72 Polara would be at the top of the heap but I wouldn't say no to an earlier example.

Many Sheriffs departments in California used CHP cars.

Alan

factory built to a CHP spec and purchased by sheriffs as new cars (using CHP purchasing clout?), or after CHP use then retirement and lived on as sheriff's cars, or both ways?

Both, the ones that got them after get them with less miles than the 75000 that were typically sold at.

This old fish has been floating around for years . .. consistently for sale since the mid 90's

I've been looking at/buying up these fusie cop cars for 20+ years but don't recall seeing THIS particular car. That doesnt mean anything ..except I dont recall it and musta obviously missed it in the past.

Anybody with prior knowledge of THIS "old fish" able to add more to the story since the current "angler" is a sparse on the history :)
