You can get 1970 440HP engines/trans for around $1500 these days, yes it would need rebuilding, but it is a real engine - not a cast crank smog motor. I just did it and I had a couple options.
I sincerely apologize for the knee jerk reaction.. it's just that so many guys on here destroy our cars for cheap thrills of the derby. Good luck with your Charger it sounds and looks like a great project!Steve,
I wasn't calling you out that reply was intended for 78brougham for his statement "Unfortunately he sounds like just another derby guy just soft soaping things ...IMHO... Sorry" it implies to me that I was Lying about my intentions for the driveline. To ASSUME that it was going to be dropped in without seeing a machine shop and some performance upgrades is just that another ASSUMPTION. A cast crank will live fine on a street tired automatic car that will be in the neighborhood of 425-450hp with a bump in compression using KB pistons, some edelbrock alum heads and performer rpm intake, 525 Comp Cams or Hughes HE3038BL with 1.6 rockers, TTI headers, and a quality balancer. I already own the pistons and heads. The body is being picked up on Sunday and heads off to Dallas,TX and that will pay for the cam and balancer I will sell the 318 LA/904 that came out of the charger it was out of 68 for another $300 and my intake is just about paid for. The engine is going to Hughes to be built. With those numbers and a bump to 3:90's the car should be a solid 12 second car with a mild trans build. Fun to drive on weekends and cruise nights. With winter coming up it give me ample time to rebuild the front suspension and upgrade to disc brakes.
