Very rough but for $600 it could be worth it with a U code 440

This car sat out in the rain with no hood, engine is likely stuck from water down the carb throat. (note rust on A/C compressor, fender wells, Master cylinder etc.). The rear end and transmission are likely cores. Still some good possible parts, High performance exhaust, fan shroud, booster core. Worth the asking price if the engine is rebuildable, otherwise this would be a pass for me. On the plus side it does have the special order "position" rear end, must be a Chevy guy.

I was ready to pounce as we will be in Birmingham with trailer and winch next week. Spoke to seller, the "Holy Grail" 14o speedo is missing. Cooled my jets but there is still a nice driveline there for that price. If it is still around next week I may check it out. Phish

I heard a reference to this speedo in another thread.
So 1974 certified is 140mph, and later ones are 120 (whether certified or not)?

my experience only -- all 140's and "certified" (though Formal Newports rumored to have 120's and "certified"), all numerals same size, 1975 through EOP after 1977 MY.

74 has the small o, only year I think. I hope to have 2 complete 74s and 2 restored faces small o coming from Bobs Speedo BUT they aint cheap.

Wow.LOVE that speedo a various gauges.Wonder if there is a way to clean or spar pen the numbers in the cluster.B.B

I betcha if you just washed it with soapy water it'll clean up, don't know why they discolor that way, sun fade or just dirty?

$600? You should've seen the 77 PK's I got in the early 80's, 1st one was in a lineup of about a 1/2 dozen of'em at used car lot for months of me passing them by, then shifted to the junkyard 'bout a mile down the road, I got the nicest one for $300, 67k miles, never had the rear brake drums off it. Second one was from the want ad's 70+k miles IIRC, kid f'ed up the lean burn and pitched the carb into the windshield, $100 + $50 to my friend to flatbed it home.

The B Body Fury's with the Lean Burn mostly went straight to the salvage yard from the police auctions. Cars had a well deserved bad rap for reliability of the lean burn and the low compression engines were of little interest to the few remaining hot rodders of that era. Oregon tried selling these cars at auction with about 70k mileage with a $600 reserve and got no takers several cycles in a row other that a few folks who bought them as family cars not knowing about the Lean Burn. From a salvage stand point, the front clip on a 3-4 year old cruiser was the only item with much potential for sale. Even the cab companies did not want these cars.

Yea I remember our SnapOn salesman showing me the special 'Tool' (apparatus) for diagnosing the leanburn, trying to unload it to me for $300 then think he came down to $150, still no sale. I never had a problem with the running car, but I didn'r 'F with it either other than changing plugs/wires/cap & rotor plus filters. Pretty much turn key, didn't even de-cat it like my 1976 Brougham. When I tweaked the front end on a off road spinout, yards still wanted a grand for the front clip, I had to do some waiting and searching to find a yard with just the LF fender, header & bumper, the other 77 was too nice to rob the clip off it and the Brougham header was already cracked and fenders had rot.

It's nice to still see cheap cars out there. Most people think 40+ years old and say $3000!

Some really neat information here for those who aren't schooled in the history. Besides the movie. Just keep thinking of Elwood raving about the car, as he brings it home to show Jake.

As Elwood told Jake "They were practically giving them away." I have talked to the owner and he will swap for a microphone!!!! Just kidding. FYI this car is NOT a lean burn. Based on the tag (I have its brother for a donor on another project) it has the reinforced frame (derby guys salivate), steel crank HP 440 with HP intake and exhaust (prolly' need heads and overhaul), 1 inch sway bar, large brakes (shot), dual spotlights (missing), 85 amp alternator (which requires a special harness), 3 core radiator (prolly' shot), trans and oil coolers, 9.25 posi 2:71 or 3:23. I have to bring a hunting jeep to Birmingham next week and I can sneak this home while wifey is at Elton John concert if its still around. There is some good parts there. Don't really need them but I will be couple hours away with an empty trailer. Here are pics of its rusted out brother. Phish

Darn, that is rusty! very few large cars like that left here - the scrap run up in the late 00's made sure most dissapeared. This a '74 Chev wagon in the local U Pull, a derby guy swore up and down he would pay $2500 for the car, even though it was 1500 miles from Michigan. Once in the U pull though, it isn't coming out. Intact, at least.
