If it was built very late in the model year, that could be true. Godshall mentions this in his Collectible Automobile article, but I've never come across a VIN confirming it. All the more important to see the fender tag on this one!

Nope. There was no 318 Formal ever.

This is a nice one. Never really liked the look of the vent window doors. But did they paint the chrome trim around the windows and body side?

A quick glance at the Gran Fury engine lineup in the dealership databooks for the years 1975, 1976 and 1977 will tell you otherwise. For 1974 one could at least make allowance for taxis. Godshall says about the addition of the 318 to the engine lineup: "The practice actually started near the end of the '74 model year".

Now I'm waiting for a 1974 VIN, preferably on the fender tag, to confirm this.

Around the rear glass and windshield should be chrome...also the side trim has been painted.

But did people actually go for this offer? According to some VINs I found, yes:

PH41G5D118258
PM41G7D132517

Same for the Monaco:

DM41G5D162852
DH46G6D177580
DM23G7D258802

There will have been less incentive to preserve a 318-engined Formal C-body for posterity, so their survival rate will be minimal.

Which car is yours?

The one below the caption "Sixth generation". During or before 2010 it was photographed at a car show in Brampton, Ontario. The site of the Piston Pushers classic car club from Brantford, Ontario, once contained a picture of the same car as a member's car. At the moment the picture is removed, probably because the member deceased. That same person's name figures in the documentation that came with my car.

What engine do you have in it?

Is your car in Italy now?

Checking the 1974 parts book....there are references to P and D full size C bodies with 318 specific parts but all of the listings state EXPORT. Meaning, finding a 74 C body with a 318 is certainly possible but may be tricky.

318 available on export models.
So, what are the chances of an export car later being imported.

I think you'd find a lot of Export cars never really left the states. This is not uncommon with A, B and E bodies ordered by Service men returning from overseas. I don't know how prevalent this would be with C bodies. I think the probability is higher a 360 was replaced with a 318 than we'd find an export 318 model.

I would think a car built for export may not meet Fed/Calif emission requirements and therefore not legal to register.

I bought a new "export" Z28 in 1989 when I was in Army in Germany. Went to the PX, ordered the car, and a month later the car was shipped to me. I picked it up at the port in Bremerhaven, Germany. I drove in Europe for 3 years and shipped the car back to the states when my deployment ended. The cat was in the trunk. It came with a straight pipe. No or very little lead free gas in Europe then. U.S. Military had an exemption for cars and didn't need cats.
