Found a picture of the bottom of the quarter panel I took. Both sides were about equal. Also, I'm just wondering if they got the A/C working? When I looked at the car the compressor would engage but, not blow cold air.

Heh yea honesty... rare item these days, Gateway waits until you leave negative feedback to be honest.

We recommend all buyers inspect the vehicles before purchase.
1996 Chevrolet Corvette -- (#162249028388)

This car isn't 'rusty', it's just not as perfect as we think a 23k mile should be -- it is truly a survivor type sitcheeashun.
And the torn vinyl at the back window is shrunk and torn, it's not burst from rust.

I don't want to defend Gateway, however I think classic car brokers don't have the detailed eyes that we do, because many of their buyers don't have them either. Some of the darkness on the lower quarters could be the result of the dark-colored floor + the excessive lighting to highlight the upper portion of the car. They did show us the torn vinyl top areas, and that could've been easily ignored if they wanted to.

Yes, I almost bought this exact car about 2 1/2 years ago... The guy who I was going to buy the car from was on the near I-74 south of Indy. He had the car priced at $3995 for quite some time and then he sold it mid 2015 I believe for $3,500.
Yes, that is correct.
What area are you based in Streetmachine?
Any you're saying the green NYB I posted is a flip also, that you saw it in Anderson?

Oh, it's not horrible or at least it wasn't when I last saw the car 3 years ago now that I think about it. The thing is at this price point it should be near perfect and the A/C should work. There was a much nicer '77 Newport with better options and red listed about a year ago for $5,500 in Cleveland, OH?

I'm near Tipton just south of Kokomo. Yes, I believe this is the same car I saw in Anderson. It was a green on green car and listed for $3,800 IIRC? I was going to stop and at least ask about it but, the next time I went by it was gone.

Went back and looked at all the pictures on the Gateway site and this is a 123k mileage car.
DON'T BE FOOLED!. "Mileage: 23707 ( actual )" I take it now that 'Actual' means that is what is showing on the odometer now. A sucker is born every minute!

What we've done here is expose how shady, deceitful, and sleazy Gateway really is. Not the image they portray. They are a gltzy, high volume Lakeland Lash.
Unfortunately for them, one of their cars was/is well known to a select community and they put it out there thinking guys like us didn't exist. Fail.

I believe the title said actual miles when I looked at the car but, then again it has been three years since I last drove it and actually laid eyes on it. It looks a little rougher than when I looked at it that I can tell you. It's not horrible but, it's not perfect either as stated.

Which dealer is Lakeland Lash?
He's a classic car dealer in Florida that goes under various names on eBay. I can't keep track of the names I've seen over the years. The other thing I'm trying to figure is that his cars get bids over the selling price and then reappear on eBay over and over.

I thought Lash was the guy who sold every Rolls Royce that came into the states in the 70's & 80's? (Or something like that) This Mike Calhoun didn't buy an old car til 2007, and he is the infamous Lakeland Lash?

Consignment shops can suck, or be awesome, it's how you deal with it. The place I know, was frustrating until I figured out the seller's are being the dumbasses setting their price too high. The shop owner will tell them flat out if they are too high on the price, he doesn't need to look stupid too. But I saw Mopars going out the door at a 5:1 ratio every time I checked in. Haven't been there in a while as I moved away, and I just focus on my cars I have.

I would say those consignment ripoff outlets serve no purpose... except.

Through circumstance I began servicing a classic Mopar owned by a Chrysler VP... a real VP who's name a few people would know. He was a nice enough guy, and an enthusiast (it's not Ralph).

However, he eventually needed to sell the car because of career demands. He'd paid way too much for a #3 car and expected to see all that money back, plus his "investments". He came to me asking advice on selling it. I said "whoa, something like that is way otta my league... you need a pro at XYZ auto consignment and appraisial..."

(It was not. I knew the car was worth 1/2 what he paid on a good day.)

XYZ told him exactly that, to which I reacted "why those rotten SOBs!" while secretly being happy they delivered the news I didn't want to! And to think, prior to this, I'd only used it as an indoor place to check out half-assed restos on a rainy afternoon.

:)
