1978 NYB Preservation Project....Sort of

I appreciate your calling it a preservation.
You are going to pass on to the next owner a great story with the car.

Really looking forward to the progress pics... sorry you have so much to do to her, but it wont get any nicer waiting around for the rust to do more damage.

Yikes! It's worse than I thought it'd be but I'm behind you all the way on it Bob, she's a real beauty in that color combo!

If that car doesn't see the inside of a garage, i'd really consider at least a light tint on the rear window before the sun eats more of the seat.

Yes Sir. I have to have the top seams redone.

Once the body work and paint is done I'm taking to a tint shop that uses 3M tint. I believe I'll do all the windows except the windshield.

Stan....what type of 3M tint am I looking for? We discussed tint in detail a number of years ago and we agreed on one of the 3M's was the best choice.

Sorry to hear that, Bob. I was really looking forward to seeing your Newport.

I wanted to bring the Newport but I've been working a lot and still have a ton of work to do to get road worthy enough to hit the highway. And...I was concerned that the rust on the NYB could get unsaveable if I let it go another year.

Good luck Bob and I hope nothing is worse than it looks.

I hope it's not terrible under that vinyl. She goes under the knife tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to show.

The guy that is doing the work is a classic car body guy that's been doing this for over 30 years. I've seen plenty of his work and I was damn lucky to get an opening for NYB.

Thanks Matt! The vinyl is going to be V1B blue like she was born with. Either someone dyed the vinyl black or 30 years baking in the sun baked the blue out of it.

That's exactly why I stopped on the Newport. I'm worried that the rust can't go on for another year.

Thank's fella's for all the kind and supportive comments.

I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I hope the rust isn't too bad under the vinyl and the rear quarters are getting repaired too. That's pretty much the worst of it. I know she'll be OK. I love this car and wouldn't hesitate to jump in it at a moments notice to drive it any place on the planet.

It comes in different gradients. You may, or may not want to go as dark as I did.

Just discovered that the vinyl top on my 78 NYB is some sort of aftermarket vinyl top with a stitched seam down the middle instead of 2 folded seams.
