This is an aluminum road wheel that was optional on the 1981 Chrysler New Yorker and Newport (R-body).

Anyone have a set or know of a set for sale? You can PM me please if so.

Thanks.

A lot of people call them Mirada wheels. They polish up nicely and make a cool wheel. Sorry, I don't have any though.

thanks for replying :)

yeah, these are the R -body "20" spokes ..never were on a J car (to my knowledge) though you're right, people call them Mirada wheels.

And they DO polish up nice :)

the mirada wheels are "10" spokes

the Cordoba wheels were the "5" spokes.

I think I have the 10's out in the shed, haven't looked at them for a while though.

thank you for replying but i only need the 20's. i retained a stash of 5 and 10 spokes :)

but if you have some of the five spoke caps, please advise me. they push in from the front, pressure mounted with those "tangs" that look like teeth (same footprint/mounting style at the Steel Road Wheel center caps).

Those I call the 5th Ave edition Limited Edition wheels, because that's the only car I've ever seen them on (as stock equipment). Super rare, just like the 80 and 81 5th Ave Edition Limited Editions were.

The caps are wrong on this car (should be same as Mirada 10 spokes) but you get the idea...

Now I've gotta do some photo chopping........ I have the 20's out there, need to make up my mind what wheels to put on the new 'vert before I off any. Anyone got good skills that way? Like to see the 20's, the 5x5's, and the rubber insert turbine style on a 65 Polara convertible.

This is the best side shot I have right now though.
These are the turbine style I mean.

A kind member has given me a lead to follow on some 20 spokes for sale. I am gonna give it try and see what happens. :)

There is a local guy with a survivor Mirada... I've only seen the car during events at the WPC museum... he has the 20s. Only set I've ever seen in person.

Hey Amazing -
Have you noticed there are 2 different casting styles on the 10-spoke wheels? LMK what you think about that. I've had 3-4 sets on cars thru the years, got them here/there and made sets, and finally noticed it one day...

yes, the FLAT spokes on the back (colloquially referred is "forged"), and then the ones that look more like "castings".

Don't get on me about the terminology as I aint a metals guy. They BOTH may be forged and/or cast -- but they LOOK different as you can see below :)

The "Flat Spokes"

The "Cast" Spokes

I was told (reliable source), but CANNOT prove except with my own experience, the flats were 1980-1981 and are a tad stronger (I have NO way of proving THAT either) than the castings from 1982 - through mid 80's when the wheel ended on M bodies.

Also, the 80-81 wheels, on the FRONT side, have a wider "Lip" (see below) than the others .. in fact its ~twice as wide -- so they have a DEEPER face. The 82 and up wheels, with the SKINNY lip, make this up so the offset of 4.5" is unaffected between the wheels. See examples below.

I use the wheels interchangeably .. BUT the 80-81 wheels REALLY polish well .. its like they are BRIGHTER when they are done. You only notice when you put them side by side.

My evidence? just watching .. i have had the same polisher do 40 sets for me. That isnt "proof" .. just an opiniion :)

Where? Details,man DETAILS!

a thoughtful member gave me great lead on craigslist. the gentleman was nice, said he had more than one set. i asked for a couple additional pics and woulda bought ALL he had .. never heard back.

since i NEVER shop on craigslist, i just looked around there for more. found TWO other sets (on January 2), and one from a guy about 90 minute drive. Just outside Toledo OH. he advertised them as MIRADA wheels btw,

they were tarnished (no problem), had the potmetal BASE caps (good shape) but no centers (ok, i have some).

bolt holes were good (they almost ALWAYS get rounded out from incorrect lugs/airgun demolitions) -- his 4 year old son latched onto me like I was his long lost uncle (smart as a whip too but i digress) .. done deal yesterday. $200 for the set.

BTW, I would be happy to give anyone the link that was shared with me -- and you may have more luck. He just may have lost my number or something .. but I'm cool now that I have a set. any more that ONE set is "hoarding" and I'll be back in therapy again. :) PM me if you want the link and I'll reply in the order received.
