We just went to pick up a 318 Poly in Witchita Falls for 75 dollars. It is a 318-3, which has a steel crank, sodium filled exhaust valve stems, and peened rods. This will be my first engine rebuild, so I am excited. The plan is to build it mildly and drop it into my Uncle's Power Wagon Swivel Frame. More info to come soon!

more pics of the truck ASAP!!!

I wish. The truck is just a frame right now... I will get pictures of his other 14(ish) Power Wagons and post a few of my dad's tomorrow though.

Cool project, as I'm sure you know there are quite a bit of new parts out for these engines. I gave serious consideration to rebuilding mine. Keep us posted as you progress

how bout pictures of the frame i love the swivel trucks

I will have to bug my Uncle for pictures of the Swivel frame later, but here are some to whet your appetite. The three trucks behind Dave are his main running trucks that he takes everywhere. One is a resto-mod (grey), one is a Wendelville Firetruck, and the other has a steel bed. He has many, many more trucks that run (over ten) along with countless ammounts of parts and parts trucks. He also has a few other Dodge trucks including a Town Panel and a dump truck, and a Power Wagon dump truck, oh and a snow plow for a Power Wagon and a wrecker.

This is where my dad went for the Power Wagon Rally this year. I usually go, but couldn't due to school.

A quick update on the engine:
So after clearing a couple inches of mud off the block, we discovered that the block is actually a 318-2 while the heads are 318-3. This makes no big difference to us, but is interesting.

That should be a fun project. Its great having younger people get into this hobby, you guys will be the ones who are keeping it alive in a couple decades. By then you'll be the wise old man... you've got a great teacher now. Compression results look like it should be straight forward... hope it stays that way and keep updating with pics please... that way you can teach others who haven't been brave enough to try an engine yet. Nothing is going to compare to that feeling when she fires up and runs good.

It tends to keep all four wheels in good contact with terrain. Dave is building his from the massive store of Power Wagon parts he has acquired. I understand that the swivel is a machined reproduction. There are a very few originals out there. Not for everybody, but then, we're not everybody. Not by a long shot!

- Dad.
