have cam and heads from 64 413. thinking of putting them on a 68 383 4bbl block. any one see any problems with this setup? 64 300 non ram parts. cam i believe is 260 duration and 430 lift on both.

I'm pretty sure the 68 heads have bigger valves and ports than the earlier ones on the 413. 68 heads should be the 906 heads which are open chamber, so you might pick up a little compression with the older heads buy I don't think it would be worth it. The 68 383 four-barrel cam is a little better for performance than the old 413 cam that you have.

To me, the main issue with the 413 heads is how much they'd increase compression ratio past the factory 10.0 on the '68 383 4bbl motor. Think "race gas" rather than pump gas, as it would need well past 100 Research Octane to run that much compression ratio.

Ports? The earlier heads probably have "less" port than the '68 heads do, so while that might help torque, it could limit ultimate 5000rpm horsepower. IF that might matter. Plus the '68 heads have the 1.74" exhaust valves, which the 413 heads would need to be machined to have.

Cams? Newer is almost always better, period. Duration and lift might not be that much different, but timing events are.

Just some thoughts,

Imo toss the 413 stuff in the garbage.
You'd be happier with the smaller of the 2 cheap summit cams
