Hey everybody, Asking all 4-speed owners. I’m converting my 65 Sport Fury from console shift automatic to 4-speed. Would anybody have pics of their firewall showing where the clutch rod comes thru the firewall along with the z-bar attached to the frame bracket. Sorta want to get an idea where to weld the bracket to the frame. Got a 4-speed bracket from Murray Park off a 65 Fury. Tried to search on this forum along with google everywhere and couldn’t come up with anything. Might be using the wrong search language? I do have FSM for that year and it doesn’t show a lot. Also wondering if all cars came with hole for clutch rod regardless if it got the 4-speed? This is a pic of my firewall currently.I’m thinking it should be just to the right of the steering shaft?Would be helpful to actually see exactly where the factory located everything. Thank You, Mike

I stumbled on this and see you got no replies. Are you still working on this?
I have an original 4-speed 65 SF, I can probably help you with some pics but would need some time to get to it.

Hey Fury Fan, Yes, still working on it. Would truly appreciate any kind of photos you could come up with. I know I’ll have to get it all set up on the car and locate the bracket but it would really help seeing one installed especially from the factory. Thank You

The best way starting with nothing, would be to have the drivetrain in with the z bar. That will show you where the frame pivot wants to live.
Yes, I was sorta figuring that would be the best way to start. Sure every vehicle might be a little different. Was hoping to see exactly where the hole would have to be for the clutch rod coming thru the firewall. Thank You for your response.

Welp, been more than a few days. But here we go.
Hopefully these help, this is what the camera gave me.

I think @RemCharger has the best idea, locate the engine/trans and do the Z-bar from there.
I'm guessing the threads on the bellhousing are 1/2-13. If you have the Z-bar and the 2 pivot-ball things, you could mock that assembly up for length, cut some allthread to appropriate length, and then bolt the frame bracket to that. Although - maybe the allthread would point up/downward? Any mild misadjustment in engine/trans mounts would also throw it off.

It might also be possible to tackweld the frame bracket to a thin plate, and then clamp that to the framerail to mock things up. (with Z-bar and clutch pedal rods in place)

And remember - if you use a diaphragm-style pressure plate, ditch the overcenter spring on the pedal or you'll have a clutch pedal that has a snappy-spot near the top of travel.

And make sure to not mix-match manual-brake pedals with a power booster. DAMHIK.

Hey Fury Fan, Thank You so much for the great pics. I agree about locating everything with a mockup, but it sure helps seeing it all set up installed. I see the shaft bracket is on a slight angle. I’m lucky to have been able to find all the stock stuff for the 4-speed conversion. Started collecting 8 yrs. ago. And I was able to purchase the last set of power pedals, reconditioned from Brewers. Once again, Thank You for all of your efforts. It’s going to make this adventure a lot easier. Much Appreciated!!!! Mike

I'm glad I collected a set of conversion parts years ago, when it was relatively cheap. Doubt I'll ever use it. Got a whole car that is awaiting me. (all I need is trans/BH/shifter, which is much easier to find)

I think the bracket is on an uphill angle due to the framerail, but I would believe it is straight front/rear of the car.
The front bottom corner of it is clearly at the corner of the framerail, but maybe I can feel back in there and guess at how far the back leg is from the corner?

But ultimately, there are ball-swivels in there, to ensure it still works as the engine twists around, so if you don't get it too far out of alignment it should work?

Looks like the torque shaft runs basically parallel to the firewall. Also the hole for the clutch rod is rather large so location isn’t real critical. Once again fury fan, I can’t tell ya how much your pics help in getting this installed in the right location.

Glad to be of help!
That clutch rod hole looks big, but I believe that the rod moves up/down during its travel, which is why the hole is an oval rather than round?
IIRC there's a reproduction boot for where the clutch rod goes thru the firewall and the steering column plate. It is probably the same for 62-65 B-bodies, I'd guess.

If you get a chance, throw a few pics of the rest of your car?

And also - there are 2-3x yearly get-togethers in Illinois, and some WI folks show up.
Might be some opportunities for you to meet some guys? @ayilar can put you on the list for such events?

Hey Fury Fan, Yes, that clutch rod hole is substantial. I was able to get the boot from Brewers, so I’ll just trace it out on the firewall. Man I would love to be part of your get together’s in the future. Thank You for the invite. I was actually born at Fort Benjamin Harris army base in 60 in Indy. Don’t know if it’s still there. Moved to Wisconsin in 70. Would love to post some pics but car is torn apart ready to go on the rotisserie. That’s why your pics are so valuable. Easier of course to get the 4-speed linkage installed without engine and so forth. This 1965 Fury model is sure an oddball with finding parts and such. Looking forward to start putting it all together. Retired now, so have plenty of time.

Yes, please join in our get-togethers if you are available. They are worthwhile!

Ft Ben is still there, but likely a mere shadow nowadays. I believe it's now just a payroll processing unit.

Yes, lots of 1-year parts on the 1965 C-bodies, and the Fury even has the honor of having a 65-Fury-specific gas tank.
Which amazingly, they reproduced at one point (maybe they still do?).
