Cool story, I suspect California may have been one of the states that did not allow quad headlights until '58.

In '57, the Imperial, Chrysler and DeSoto had the 4 headlight setup as an option.

I think I like the 2 lights vs. the 4...

As far as the Edelbrock carb, note the adapters between intake and carb and carb and air cleaner. The WCFB's were a smaller bolt pattern, CFM and inlet size. They probably went with the easy, new out of the box deal, rather than taking a shot on getting the old one working properly. As long as the original is included with the car I wouldn't worry about it being non-original.

If this one would have been for sale last year I would've snapped it up. As is, I'll stick with restoring my '60 Adventurer. The '57 DeSoto's had the best color sweep lines of any Forward Look.

Second that with all that had the quad options.

I'm indifferent to the 2 lights vs. 4 - for some reason I have seen a lot more of the 4-light cars so they look more "normal" to me, but the 2-light version looks fine also. To me, the best feature of the '57 is that combined bumper/grille assembly. That narrow upper slot with the turn signals at either end, and then the slightly taller opening on the bottom is just so clean, so perfect a design, it is just stunning.

Car like that deserves the effort and expense of having it done right. My .02.

I like either variation and would kill to have one ..... one of the most beautiful cars ever built

If someone comes across a decent pair of single headlight buckets, I would be interested.
