59 Bel Air vs. 09 Impala

and there you have it...... the reason our cars are so heavy, expensive, and have no design....... Insurance companies and nothing more. I dont want air bags, safety beams, seat belts......

Agreed, Fred, & they're getting safer & better all the time. Cutting the number of fatalities by half is amazing.

I dont care............ I dont want it. Face it, it is not about saving lives, its about the dollars they have to put out, nothing more.

The above has been proven to be faked by GM, The Impala they chose was less than solid, Notice the cloud of rust? Also your comparing the worst chassis design ever in terms of safety to one of the best, X frame Vs Perimeter unibody construction.

Nick

Well, I want all of it. The Durango that serves as daily driver for my wife & kids is loaded up with safety features & I am thrilled to have every one of them protecting my family.

I just thought it was interesting. I wasn't trying to make a statement or inspire a debate, just thought it was cool footage.

Yeah I know, just like the silly radial tires

I think what it really means we need to square up and hit the other guy head on, eat my BB. Rear collision not a problem on any of our boats. :3gears: Except I would never find a perfect set of rear tail lights for my '66 300.

I wear the lap and shoulder belt driving my 68. Not sure if it was the first year for the optional shoulder belt. The ragtop only has lap belts of course.

You're right, Mike, the lesson is that if you're gonna hit you're better off squaring up.

Nick, I agree it's all propaganda all the time, what else is new... Amazing how you can rig & spin **** to tell whatever story serves you best. You truly can't believe anything you see or read.

The shoulder strap design in 72 & 73 Imps is unbelievably cumbersome. You feel safely strapped in but you can't move & it's just plain in the way when you get in/out of the car.

That's probably the reason their was so much initial resistance to and low compliance with seat belt laws. I probably keep my shoulder belt too loose for my comfort which likely renders it less safe in a crash. The new designs are very comfortable.

I need to figure out how to add shoulder straps in the 67 Polara.

Here's the shoulder belt attachment location on a 2 door in 68.
