Anybody upgrade the 'super' safe for 1959 front drum brakes on their 57, 58 or 59 Imperial? I'm hoping to avoid expensive aftermarket conversions and see if there's a way to adapt other Ma Mopar model disc setups to the Imperial. I haven't gotten my nose deep into the front setup yet so please forgive my naïve question.
For sure I'll be upgrading to a dual reservoir master, even if I have to stay with the drums. I'm all for keeping her looking as factory as possible but there are some upgrades that just make good sense, better brakes is one of them in my opinion.
Anybody try this change over?

Unless you're hauling trailers through the mountains or doing some high speed driving I'd say a well maintained overhauled stock drum brake system maybe upgraded to the dual master you're considering is all you'll need for the usual driving with a vintage car. Don't think there's an easy plug and play fix to discs, but there are some guys who know way more about this.

Been driving a couple of all drum cars even in daily driving in the flats without any issues.

Thanks! While I prefer the broader stopping power of disc I'd be ok with the drum brakes, especially since the imperials have 'extra' wheel cylinders up front, but I have nightmares about single reservoir masters ;) I definitely agree with upgrading to a dual reservoir master, it's a real heavy car to Flintstone brake lol

I would be happy to find the master cylinder extension that brought out the resevor ahead of the brake bellows. Never found one yet but still looking.

Scarebird makes a kit for late fifties cars uses a bunch of factory parts ford rotors ram 1500 calipers, all parts are easily sourced local or rock auto.

I hadn't even thought of that! It's a real pain to replace the master, took me twice as long as it should have. I wonder what the logic was in burying it like that. If I come across that piece I'll let the group know too. Thanks!
