As a licensed VIN verifier and Imperial owner myself, if there were any signs that a VIN tag has been reattached, we are obligated to immediately report it. Therefore, whatever you do if using an original plate, do it so that it doesn’t show! From early 2016 and until last month, California even required a secondary VIN which posed problems for some vintage cars that simply don’t have one or, if they did, it was hidden.
