Certainly not my taste, but somebody must have liked it. I wonder about the strength of the windshield without a header.

hen I was a kid a neighbor had two '59 Pontiacs. They weren't convertibles, but I liked them.

This car certainly makes me understand where the purists are coming from when they say leave it alone. I don't completely agree with them on that in every case, because there are modifications that other people will want, but there are also modifications that you'll be lucky if you can find one person who would want them. I've never cared much for that idea of removing the top of the windshield or cutting down the height of the windshield on a "topless" car. I know one of the first Charger concepts/prototypes had a windshield like that, but I didn't care for it on it either.

th

Don't get me wrong. I would certainly take the Pontiac and cruise it, but I would have to repaint it and remove those crests from the seats, which of course would leave damage to the upholstery. I'd have to at least recolor the interior. I like the engine.

I wonder if this car was built as some kind of school shops project?

Never own a car in ANY team colors. I'd have to make everything that is yellow, either maroon to match the rest, or cream/white. The yellow is too much.

That is a beautiful car that would be very hard to find parts for... Completely destroyed. None of the custom work has enhanced the car, which otherwise looks straight and has nice trim. If the tripower is original the car had some value, not sure how much... now its pure BS. It makes me think of the old "Titus" tv show where he couldnt bear to put a wing on a nicely done streetrod coupe. If you were in the shop when this guy asked for the car to be permanently f-ed up like this, could you hold your tongue and just do it?

The thing that makes this very difficult (NOT impossible) to make back to normal is the windshield header. I'm assuming that the top frame no longer exists, or this was made from a "bubbletop" hardtop Pontiac. Plus, when you paint ANYTHING in school colors, it is very hard to sell outside a very limited market. With this car, you have the awful color combo (that's the truth, 'Nole fans!), the interior, and whatever the hell they did with the original top! So, you would have to find another Seminole fan who happens to like customized 1959 Pontiac Star Chiefs, as a buyer.

You never know what they started with or when it was done. It might have been a car that the top was crushed or it was done back when there was almost no value or collector interest for that car.

I can't tell by looking at it, maybe some can, but my thoughts are that it probably was a hardtop. If it was a car that had it's roof crushed then I have no problem with them "saving" the rest of the car by doing this to it. I hate to see any old car, especially this old, go to the scrapheap. However, if they cut a perfectly good roof off, I would be bothered by that. I guess the car could stay the way it is and still be of interest to someone if it were repainted and the interior recolored. Agree that all maroon or maroon and off-white/cream would be nice for a paint job.
