6.1 or 5.7 swap. Has anyone done it or looked into it?

I have been somewhat thinking about doing something like this. I tried cross referencing motor mounts a bit and it seems the 66-72 B body and 70-74 E body mounts may be the same as my 72 Newport. Mancini makes the mounts for the B and E body to swap in the 5.7/6.1 engines so this would save fabbing time there.

Does this sound right to you guys?

I'd like to see if this is an easy swap.

Seems to me with the number of cheap and nice C-bodies available sans drivetrain, a swap to a new hemi could make a lot of sense.

I used 6 speed motor mounts from a 6.1 & then custom mounts had to be welded on the stub frame. Milidon makes an oil pan that works but the K-member still needs to be notched. The biggest problem is the steering box cuz it is does not clear the headers.

I guess it is actually TTI that makes the motor mounts. They make a lot of stuff from the looks of it and I remember using a few of their things from my Neon days. Their quality is pretty good from the looks of past parts I have used.

I do know that Holley is now making a harness that will work with their computers for these engines. It is making me think about doing this swap with a turbo into my Fury.

Can't you use Grand Cherokee manifolds though?

There is some good thinking going on here....I like the idea of re-power those raped C-bodies with a modern drivetrain.

Painless makes a plug and play harness. I used a computer from an 05 Ram since the tuners say that's the easiest to manipulate.

Nope, the 6.1 SRT clamshell headers do not clear the gearbox.

I put a truck v10 in my 67 fury.a new hemi should fit with ease!

Sorry boss but we do not offer a harness for the Hemi engines right now. Looked into it and the only way we could get all of the connectors to do it would have cost a fortune and we would have had to buy a ton of them in order to make the deal and they weren't up to doing it.

Well then I'll have to look at the box but I would have sworn it was Painless. In any case, I bought a plug & play harness.

Stormer did you use the Nag1 tranny or a 727? I did hear that a 727 can bolt up with the proper bellhousing/adapter.

I used a 727 and it bolts right up. You need a flex plate and torque converter.

Someone should put a kit together with all of the components needed; mounts, harness, flex plate, etc. I could see it now, in ten years all those kids ripping the 5.7's out of worthless metric Challengers and Chargers to breath life into the engine-less "Vintage" C bodies selling at BJ Auction for 5 figures. :pimp_daddy:
