This is "Big Red" or my current '65 Sport Fury. It is identical to the one I had in '64-'67 except for the vinyl roof, front and rear bumper guards, radio, and chrome rocker panels, while my other had power brakes. This one also has that stupid console-mounted tach which is worthless down there -- I put a Sun on the steering column of that first one. I also put a radio in it after that blond thought it would be a good idea. Interestingly, part of the extra $62 for the 4-speed versus the TorqueFlite was that the floor pan had to be manually hacked away somewhere down the production line to accommodate the shift linkage. This is very evident on my car but a friend who has a '63 Max Wedge 4-speed says his has an even more of a butcher job.

Ah, nice to see where 'Big Red' landed. I've watched that one over the years on ebay, and it was always my benchmark when someone said 'my 426/4spd needs restored and is worth xxx',, I'd throw in a pic of Red for how its ebay auctions ended.

FWIW - I'm pretty sure those rocker moldings are not original, I'm pretty sure no 65 Fury had those. (but it looks classy on there)

My 65 shifter hump has a lot of sealer on it, but my memory from looking at the underside was that it looked like it was pretty nicely done. The edges at the cutout fit pretty well.

Thanks for that pic. I hadn't seen a 65 hump until now. I can now see the difference tween the 65 and the 66+.
Perhaps the 66+ one was to accommodate the Inland shifter?

I would've thought I'd sent you that with all those Z-bar and linkage pics I sent you years ago for your '66? Maybe not.

I presuemed the change was for the Inland also, although I do not know what is different to require the change in tower shape.
It might also be that the round tower stretches the metal less drastically during the stamping process?

Here's the 66+ one.

and the 65 from above...

It looks to me the later one was modified to increase room for the Inland shifter rods?

Fury Fan --
Right on the rocker panels. I haven't the foggiest how they got on my current Sport Fury as they don't seem to be offered as options on any information I have nor do I recall them being available back then. However, weird things did happen in dealer's shops in the old days. I was more of a "minimalist" at the time as I pulled the stock spinner wheel covers and fender skirts and just put "baby moons" on it. I'm not that fond of the panels or the vinyl top and I've kinda sorta thinking of removing them to make it more like the original (but I'll leave the skirts and wheel covers). Even without the modern amenities of A/C and P/S, it's a fun car to drive and to fool around with the "tuners" in their souped-up riding lawnmowers -- with almost a quarter ton of torque with even 3.23 gears, it's a bear off the line.
