65 Sport Fury 383 with Dual Quads

I have seen the fiberglass re-pops of those available from Greece on Ebay for a crazy price, something like $365. They are cool! Don't mind spending a few hundred dollars but would prefer metal. I have seen the other later dual quad air cleaners like on the 440's and 426 Hemi's which are priced, well lets say, too high. Thanks

Open to all suggestions!!

In 1962, Chrysler offered both a Dodge and a Plymouth with a 383 engine and two four-barrel carburetors. The engine also sported a Clay Smith solid lifter cam. The carbs were AFBs and the air cleaners were oval shaped. I think one of those cars took the Stock Eliminator title in either '62 or '63. Very cool setup. I don't think this package was ever offered again after 1962.

Here is picture of a Plymouth equipped with that 383 / 343 HP engine:

Those fit AFB's, so they won't fit a Holley.

i heard the holleys have to ride sideways to fit on that intake. i dunno its just what i heard. i do know 2 eddys will fit - there is a pic somewhere in this forum of test-fitting an offy 360 2x4 intake and 2 eddys onto a 383.

try not to die -

these base i made for /6 air cleaner elements . and your holley need to be raised a bit to get throttle linkage clearance as i did . guess you could stack gaskets and spacers on that offy adapters . but they bend up on the corners abit and could cause a vac leak and toning issues . i drilled those spacers to the offy bolt pattern , bolted them direct to the offy intake . maybe you could run the early /6 lids too . never tried them on this package . just this one atop the blower .

mine are thicker than that . i think 1/2'' plates would not wrap as 1/4 '' ones . i use 1'' thick solid with four thru holes i believe , not sure of your holley carbs . but these holley 660 cfm's have a lot of swing to the linkage .

i never did go this route. i pulled it and bought a weiand 8008. i got scared out of losing too much bottom end and im only a stoplight racer . . .

Always thought this would be a cool nostalgic upgrade to a 65/66 383 equiped C body. Clay Smith still grinds cams.

I'm not sure, but I think he was referring to his "fog" lights.
It sounds to me like the previous owner of the car not only sold you the car, but a pretty good line of B.S. too. In '65 the 383 4-bbl. was 315 h.p. The rear gear choices were 2.76 or 3.23:1. And unless it has a Chevy rearend in it, it doesn't have "Posi traction" either. The 2 4-bbl. set up could have been dealer installed, if it really ever had one.
Took the words out of my mouth. I was looking to see if anyone said it before I wrote it.

That has twin belts, but regardless, I would have to see some paperwork from the factory that shows that set up was delivered from the factory like that. Not that I don't like dual quads, but what advantage to the FBI would they be?
Had a friend in the '80s who was a former FBI Agent. He bought a '57 Fairlane barbecue it reminded him of his FBI car. He did say, "Although mine had dual fours." So, perhaps they did go for that.

No telling if he did a gear swap and an upgrade to a posi but the next time we speak I will discuss the cars history further.
You used that Chevy word again. What 65 500 said earlier is true, Mopars limited-slip rears are called "Sure Grip," not posi. It's nit-picking, sure, but... it is correct.

I realize my wording "posi" is incorrect for the Mopar guys. I have never owned a Mopar before this vehicle. Always owned and currently own other American classics. I have a new brain wrinkle learning "Sure Grip". I have always wanted a Mopar from the 60's to first years of the 70's.

The pics of the Holley's appear to be on non-Iffy intake. The intake I purchased is the one with the aluminum adapters already mounted to the intake without carbs mounted on it posted by Pomonamissel. The Holley's I intend to use are 450 cfm 4 barrels so the overall sizing is still reasonable. Only reasons to go this route is the original vehicle story and the fact that I already have everything except for the intake. That and the cool factor, of course! ;)

Sure would be nice if you could find and post pictures of the build sheet (sometimes found in the springs behind the back seat back) and the fender tag. These items would go a long way to aid your efforts to authenticate the car and its options.

Regardless of the previous owners story or how unlikely you personally feel it is to believe from what I collect from folks on this and other forums modifications like these were done by dealerships, not the factory. Finding others which have known of these FBI beasts kind of put a shadow of possibility on the story. I intend to get in contact with the original owners family to get more direct information about the car.

I pray it is true and give it some credence until I find otherwise. Thanks for your side of things so that I may challenge the story further. Andy

Definately!!! Both missing.
