66 300 Cluster f*#@ed??

Well as it turns out I am just down the road from you 300rag ..... In Cochrane,AB. If you ever need a deal on any Parts or on one of our fine automobiles (insert shameless plug here) I'd be happy to help out. That goes for any of you fine fellas (insert cheesy smile). We ship what we sell! Just PM me with your requests. Sorry no Gorillas on the roof but we do have Hellcats in the showroom!! (Insert evil grin) www.cochranedodge.com :yaayy:

Looks a lovely part of Canada, will have to visit one trip.

BTW, how can I ensure I don't get forum spam on this topic "you are subscribed to..." Seems an automatic forum feature, any way to prevent it???

So...
How much OVER sticker are you guys asking?
I believe one dealer had the the balls to call it, "Availability surcharge"... :D

Believe it or not we stayed at MSRP or below. I had one salesguy buy one at employee price only to flip it 2 weeks later. Company policy is staff must keep vehicles for 6 months before selling. This guy won't be getting any more deals like that if you know what I mean. The Charger in the showroom sold yesterday for $75900 CND which is below MSRP

That 79,500 CDN is less than 60K for our US cousins. I was looking for a new truck and found that you guys had 8 of the Ceramic Blue Sports in stock. How did you get that many of the "limited edition" ones? I would have taken one, but they are only the 5'7" box.

1. Sounds like you'really a 1/2 decent stealership, then. Good for you guys.

2. I'd have fired that shitbum the same day...

Absolutely. Immediately, if not sooner. That's the kind of crap that sticks to a dealership's name and rep, regardless of knowledge or involvement. "They have their employees do it so they can keep their hands clean" and whatever else.

Back to the instrument cluster. Ironically, the last thing I was working on with the Road Shark was tracking down electrical problems and non-working lights, features, etc. When I crawled up under the dash and removed the cluster connector, it brought 2 pins with it. Oh, yay. More stuff to fix!

I like the brass brad repair, nice and strong and keeps things close to original in case the Mopar police pull a surprise inspection some night. Just be sure to clean off any excess solder flux as it can eat into things like the old phenolic board and other connections, as well as causing shorts. An old toothbrush works well.

For practicality in testing and repairing, as well as removing any stress from the old board, the remote approach is the way to go. This allows easier access to both the harness and cluster for testing a dead circuit, by providing a longer cable and connector to check with your DVM or VOM.

I need to test fit one of my connectors at home, but I think a standard 8 pin plug pigtail could be soldered to or in place of the pins and brought out to a convenient length. Here's an example on epay:

The one issue I see is that Chrysler mounted the keyway on the female connector, which would require removing that and replacing it with the corresponding 8 pin socket. Don't do this if you're afraid of the originality police.

You could come up with similar connector solutions to the other pins on the board, even make it completely reversible with a little extra effort.

Good luck with it, Dobalovr. So far my dash has a working ammeter and parking brake light. And 2 loose pins....!

The more I think about it Boomer the more I agree with your assessment. I know for a fact this won't be the last time I will be up under the dash and with how fragile the pins are you just know more will be coming off. Moving the pins to an 8 point plug seems the right thing to do. Now all I need is some 50 year old brass brads!!

300rag - I have naked pictures of Chrysler reps - I can get what ever you need. :)

Getting good at restoring these clusters ...here's the second one I've done.

Disassembled & cleaned, contacts cleaned, guages checked, bulbs replaced. I remove the blue bulb covers as I suffer from poor night time vision and the blue light makes it hard to see the guages.

I had to remove the blue condoms myself. I tried the blue tinted bulbs but in use, they didn't have a blue glow at all. Finally replaced those with normal clears and said screw it.
And I refuse to get involved with LED's.

What are those letters and numbers between the ammeter and the fuel gauge for??:poke:

That cluster was scavanged for its gear indicator some time ago but it is just a backup to my backup. The last one I have left to do is more like what you're used to - console shift car no gear indicator :)

Dammit. I should have taken out the blue lenses when I had mine out. The brighter lights look way better! Although I'm not out much in the car after dark. Looks good
