The car came with a new column as the original was busted. Has anyone replaced one with a after market? Mine is a CPP brand with the 1" DD end looking to adapt to fit. Should I look for a rag joint or just use u joints on each end with a solid shaft?

You would probably be better served to find a salvage yard column and clean that up. That way you would have the correct part for your application. Some applications have both a rag joint and u-joints. The rag joint us usually needed because it serves as a shock reducer so you do not break something in the gear or the column. If you got the installation instructions for the universal fit
replacement, it should offer info on the installation.
