That is what our 65 Polara has.

Ours is a red color.

If your car had the carpet and metal strips like our T&Cs then you should have screw holes that match what you see in my photos. Of course there are slight differnces in the number of panels that would have been in a car with the 3rd row seat vs the trunk. But most of the panels are the same, tail gate, 2nd row seat back. Compare the screw holes in your car to the photos I posted. Does it look like your car has screw holes in the spots my car has screws? Same number of rows etc? If not does it look like the number of holes and spacing match the ad photos youve located? The screw holes should help you determine what your car came with if your wanting to go back with the original treatment. Your car looks great, seems to nice for the rubber mats to me.

After zooming in on your tailgate photo looks like you dont have the right number of screw holes for the carpet and metal strips. Looks like it matches the ad photo. But hard to tell for sure from the photos.

Don, I can see from your original photo that your panels on the tailgate and the cover between the tailgate and the interior do NOT have the holes drilled for the chrome strips as @1966 t and c has also noted, and therefore it's rubber for you.

I would look into the companies that make replacement rubber for 1920s and 30s cars that have running boards. I would guess a very similar profile could be found. Check these guys out to see:

Don did you find what you needed? I got some running board rubber from Steele Rubber Products in Denver, NC one time, it had that same small grooved look to it, but it was not in a large panel format. I bet you can find it to fit though.

It's a matter of coaxing out of Steele Rubber whom their supplier is for that particular extrusion - and then contacting them and seeing if it is made in sheets.

One thought, unless a person was certain about the quality of what they are buying matching OEM, I would want some confirmation about the wearability of what I was buying, for that application. I believe “durometer” would be the correct characteristic to quantify. Someplace like McMaster Carr may be able to supply something like that too.

It's almost like an embossed linoleum. The panel on the tailgate is pretty much shot. It breaks up just like old brittle linoleum. I suppose 55 year old vinyl would appear like that.

Don you could do something custom, temporarily. Get some flooring material with a cool 1960’s pattern to it. You could always change it out later.

Apparently all Dodge wagons had the textured vinyl inserts in the cargo area.

When I got my wagon it had the same - no chrome strips in the Monaco. I couldn't find a good affordable alternative, and I wanted the sound deadening of fabric or carpet. I would have preferred finding the original style chrome strips, but those are hard to find, and when I did find them, there weren't a complete set or they were all dented. As a temporary affordable fix, I used a synthetic carpeting material from the local Menards. It had a decent color match for my interior, and the linear pattern somewhat matched the intent of the original. I used a spray contact glue, and was very happy with the results. The most time consuming was getting the old glue off the panels.
